There’s a blog called http://everysinglewordspoken.tumblr.com/ which compiles and youtubes every word spoken by people of color in major/celebrated films, pointing out in no uncertain terms the lack of diversity in Hollywood in a way which cannot be justified by some lack of diverse talent, or ability to cast “the best” actors in major roles.

Very brave post ibbster. Bravo.
Experience has shown me that, saying something like this on social media attracts the Trolls, the Head-Shakers, the “Smarties”, and the Finger-Pointers. It can be a lot of fun standing toe to toe with them, and refusing to be out-pointed, or intimidated.
I have, so much practice now, IRL or otherwise, that I welcome them. Come ahead. Try me.July 10, 2015 at 9:19 am #189974
Wow, that Into The Woods one is both hilarious and also kind of awkward to watch.
I imagine if you did that for a stage version of it, then you wouldn’t have as short a video? Ridiculous that the cast is literally FULL of white actors.July 10, 2015 at 11:11 pm #189975
I’m delighted by this post. This is great!
Well, it’s not great. But… you know what I mean.July 11, 2015 at 1:47 am #189976
I will say with the 500 Days of Summer one, they need to add in Geoffrey Arend’s lines – he is half Pakistani.July 11, 2015 at 7:34 am #189977
Let’s follow the money again shall we?
ETA: Vincelette, sweetie, this isnt about racism. It’s about diversity. All colours, n’est ce pas?July 12, 2015 at 5:48 am #189978
This is great.
Hope Hollywood takes notice.July 12, 2015 at 11:17 am #189979
Wasn’t Olivia Wilde’s character in Her supposed to be Asian? Well if true that would probably be considered “yellow face” and make matters even worse.
What’s perhaps most suprising about this list is the fact that so many of these films (Frances Ha, Her, 500 Days of Summer, Enough Said, Black Swan, Friends with Benefits) were all filmed in NYC or LA – two of the most diverse cities on the plant – if not the most! I can forgive a film for featuring an all white cast if its set in Rural Iowa, Kentucky or Utah, but not in cities where whites aren’t even the majority anymore.
