Sounds like pretty nice news. This is on the front page?

So let me get this straight:
“Maps to the Stars” WILL be eligible for the Oscars, but will not have a campaign?
Right?September 4, 2014 at 9:59 am #160653
But there’s still hope for an Oscar aimed campaign or that’s a no-show?September 4, 2014 at 10:07 am #160654
I don’t know what to think about it… “Frankie and Alice” anyone?September 4, 2014 at 10:14 am #160655
The mindblowing thing is that it will be in Musical/ComedySeptember 4, 2014 at 10:18 am #160656
The Globes will probably love this. It makes it seem like they’re saying “who needs an Oscar when you can have a GOLDEN GLOBE?!” I still think that Julianne Moore is just so popular that she will get a nomination, because there is so much buzz about her and already for this performance she is being noticed.September 4, 2014 at 10:22 am #160657
Maybe they can borrow the campaign cow from David Lynch.
I’d love to see Moore get recognized, she is long overdue for some major awards hardware.September 4, 2014 at 10:23 am #160658
Maybe this is the campaign: to share the world about the non-campaign. It’s interesting and can generate buzz for sure.September 4, 2014 at 10:26 am #160659
Could this non campaign be an actual…campaign? Could rally people more than any money could if the impression is they are screwing her over. She could actually win the Musical/Comedy Globe the way that race is shaping up. Than what? They are just going to give up on her?September 4, 2014 at 10:26 am #160660
That an um interesting way to campaign….September 4, 2014 at 10:53 am #160661
If EOne and Focus World can’t afford to send screeners to the academy members and do not do special screening for AMPAS members (complete with Q&As), there is little chance that this will get any academy nominations. Voters are too lazy to see it otherwise.September 4, 2014 at 11:07 am #160662
I think if and only if Moore starts racking up nominations EVERYWHERE she could still get in, as that will probably grab her enough attention to get just enough voters to see it. Plus theres always overlap with sag, so if she gets lucky enough of the actors branch who attend sag screenings will vote her high enough to get her in. But that then means they need to make a category decision QUICK because thats how people miss out on major nominations.
Plus, isn’t there the possibility that they’re saying this now so they won’t be committed to spending the money if she has no chance, but then if she becomes a force on the precursors they can go “oh well we reconsidered and were going to do a last minute campaign after all”September 4, 2014 at 11:22 am #160663
I think even if the movie gets overlooked, if the buzz picks up on Julianne Moore, she should still be in contention right? It’s not as if she’s an unknown actress in a foreign film. So, I’m not counting out her yet at least. The movie though prob won’t get much attention if they dun screen it.September 4, 2014 at 12:06 pm #160664
I assume that, with this bump, we forget the previous MAPS TO THE STARS thread, do we?
I don’t understand the treatment with this film. 2014 is a SUPER WEAK year for Best Actress contender. EOne is screwing up their thing. They seem silly, they should be ashamed of being a distributors. Like… give it a late December limited release and then do whatever you want in January. In a weak year like this, Julianne could get nominated on name alone (It’s not like 2009, with “A single man”).
