What are some of your favorite lines to come from 2014’s films?

“There are no two words in the English language more harmful than ‘good job.'” – Whiplash

“Sometimes it’s the people that nobody imagines anything of that do the things nobody can imagine.” – The Imitation Game

“This was very disrespectful.” – A Most Violent Year

“I am Groot.” – Guardians of the Galaxy

“If you want to win the lottery, you have to make the money to buy a ticket.” – Nightcrawler

“I’m so much happier now that I’m dead.” – Gone Girl

And my personal favorite of the year:

“Popularity is the slutty little cousin of prestige.” – Birdman

^All terrific. I particularly love that line from ‘Whiplash’. It might be my favorite of the year.

“You’ve menstruated on my $12,000 Italian lounge” Havana Segrand played by Julieanne Moore in Maps to the Stars

“I know I don’t make a good dyke” Havana Segrand played by Julieanne Moore in Maps to the Stars

“We have had the first miracle. Now we can go for beaitification!” Mutter (Mother) played by Franziska Weisz in Stations of the Cross

Amour Fou & Welcome to New York are also full of great lines of dialogue.

“I can promise you every one of those gays has thrown away far better than you” – Hevina in Pride (literally just finished watching it abut 10 minutes ago. Great movie)

“When you’re in a battle, against an enemy so much bigger, and so much stronger than you, to find out you had a friend you never knew existed, that’s the best feeling in the world” – Dai, also from Pride haha

“I am not the star. I am the menorah that burns down the christmas tree” – Donna in Obvious Child

“I thought there would be more” – Olivia in Boyhood

“He looks like something a gay guy created in a lab” – Neighbors

“Everyone knows complicated is code for bitch” – Margo in Gone Girl

All of the above are probably paraphrased by the way, don’t blame me if their not right haha

Nicole: You know how everyone’s always saying seize the moment? I don’t know, I’m kind of thinking it’s the other way around, you know, like the moment seizes us. From “Boyhood” my favorite film of the year!

    ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE

    • You drank Ian!
    • I just feel like all the sand is at the bottom of the hourglass
    • That certainly was visual
    • Mutual jeopardy makes me feel safer

    CALVARY

    • I think she’s bipolar. Or lactose intolerant. One of the two
    • I think forgiveness has been highly underrated
    • You have no integrity. That’s the worst thing I can say about anybody

    The Grand Budapest Hotel
    M. Gustave:
Rudeness is merely an expression of fear. People fear they won’t get what they want. The most dreadful and unattractive person only needs to be loved, and they will open up like a flower.

    M. Gustave [on Boy With Apple]: This is van Hoytl’s exquisite portrayal of a beautiful boy on the cusp of manhood. Blond, smooth skin as white as that milk, of impeccable provenance. One of the last in private hands, and unquestionably the best. It’s a masterpiece. The rest of this shit is worthless junk.

(most quotable character of the year!)

    Leviathan
Priest: All power comes from God. As long as it suits Him, fear not.

    Dmitri: Everything is everyone’s fault.

    Mr. Turner
    Turner: Mmmmhhmmmm.

“You’re doing this because you’re scared to death, like the rest of us, that you don’t matter, and you know what, you’re right. You don’t! It’s not important, okay? You’re not important! Get used to it.”- ‘Birdman’… Emma Stone’s whole monologue to Keaton, really.
