Good. My provocative headline made you click on this thread. Ha! Now here is where I think the derby stands …

    U agree?

BTW, honest to gawd, Eddie Redmayne called me soon after the SAG Awards to thank me for sticking by him. I damned near dropped the phone in shock.

“I was starting to lose confidence that I could do this when I saw the other experts ditching me,” he said. “Thanks for your extraordinary support. I look forward to seeing you next week at the Oscar nominations
lunch.” That’s where I’ll be interviewing him and other nominees at length for our new video
collaboration with “Entertainment Tonight.” Stay tuned for details.

Ugh. I’m looking foward to your chat with Michael Keaton. Prepare him for his shocking BAFTA win. 😉

Ha! Brag away, Tom.  And congrats on Eddie’s call. He really wants to win it, doesn’t he?

Tom, you and I are the smartest bunch here. Never predicted/never will predict Keaton. Team Redmayne all the way!

Ha, probably. Michael Keaton has some support over there. London critics awarded him. A lot of people thought Michael Fassbender was a lock to win the BAFTA last year with Jared Leto out of the way. London critics and BAFTA matched up with Barkhad Abdi. So, perhaps they do again here. You never know. Stranger things have happened.

Lol! When I saw the thread title, I KNEW it had to be you who started it.

Great story re Redmayne. He doesnt sound much like a man ready to concede his Oscar to anyone else.

    Anne Hathaway must’ve taught him.

Eddie’s been a faithful fan of, and friend to, Gold Derby for many, many years. Back when he premiered on Broadway in “Red” he ditched whatever important thing he was doing to race over to the location where we were shooting video about the Tonys. He was stunned that we were predicting him to win the featured category (which he did snag later) and he was eager to talk to us about our prognostication. For years after that he did webcam videos with us. Once, I remember, he was late for our start time, stuck in a cab in a traffic jam over in London. He ditched the cab and jumped over vendors in Picadilly Circus as he raced to get to his hotel room. He was frantically huffing and puffing when he signed on to join us. He’s extraordinarily considerate that way — always wanting to please people, not wanting to let you down. Fame hasn’t ruined him like so many other stars. He’s such a decent chap and so talented that I hope he gets this Oscar. Nearly everybody who knows him feels the same way. You can’t, ahem, say that about Keaton, who has legions of detractors in this biz …

I was predicting Redmayne right until yesterday when I switched to Keaton. I kicking myself. No… I’m hitting myself in the balls with a tiny little hammer.

Heh.  He learned from the best.

That kind of desperation should turn people off.  Not rewarded.
