Pulp Fiction is mhy least fav Tarantino film. So Overrated imo. Tom Hanks was powerful and deserved his oscar by a mile.

This is another case of comparing peanuts to pecans. One’s not technically a nut and many have allergies to the new, GMO ones. Lol.

Pulp Fictions’ Original Screenplay is absolutely brilliant. Shawshank and Forrest are Adaptations and excellent ones. Wiest and Landau deserved their wins over Thurman and Jackson.

All three are rewatchable imo and my favorite in terms of emotional gratification?

    Forrest. Forrest Gump.

It is one of the few films that makes me cry. For that, I commend it, and think it’s better than Pulp Fiction and Shawshank Redemption. But, damn, what a year in film that was. It would’ve been hard to pick.

I love Forrest Gump, and I put it on par with Pulp Fiction and Shawshank. I would have had a very hard time choosing that year, especially because I also really liked Quiz Show.

People here know how I feel about this film.

The only nominations it deserved imo were for Sally Field (ironically one of the few it didn’t get), visual effects and score. Sinise was a deserving nominee but doesn’t make my personal lineup. Wright would have been a deserving nominee as well and is in my 6th place spot.

Shawshank wasn’t a box office success and wasn’t a factor in any major critics awards – its amazing afterlife is as unexplainable to me as what happened with that Malysian airplane.

I was about to say the exact same thing in the unpopular opinions thread but now I don’t need to haha. I think it’s a great film, deserving every win it got. I also would have given Wright at least the nomination. Thurman is the only nominee I’ve seen in the category, but I still would have put in Wright over her

I’m curious: Would anyone vote against a film you liked more if you know the other film is a greater cinematic achievement?  It’s an interesting question…since the award is for Best Picture of the year, not favorite picture.  How willing would you be to vote for a film you didn’t like as much if you feel the merit is there and it is deserving of the award?

Well, since there’s no way on earth to quantify ‘the best’ numerically, I’d only vote for what I felt was better crafted if I liked both films equally.

I wouldnt vote for any film which offends me politically. By that I mean, not a heinous subject, but a brainwashed ‘look’ at what we’re suppose to believe.

    Lol.

It’s an  incredibly likeable and entertaining film, but the criticism  of it makes sense.  Hanks is great, much  better then his Phildadelphia performance.   I think its better then Pulp Fiction, which has no real point or substance to it. Thurman does what’s required, but its hardly Oscar-worthy. Jackson and Travolta are fantastic though.

I think Shawshank is better and critics agree.

Well I hope you give Gump a look.  I truly like the film because Forrest, is SUCH a nice guy.  He has no guile, which is a plus imo, accepts almost everyone, loves his mother. (lol), and he knows what love is. Plus, he aint ‘stoopid’ at all. It’s an optimistic film which, amidst the chaos, there’s so much good in the world.

I feel that way sometimes, like with Schindler’s list. I admire it, and recognize that it is extremely well-made, but I’ve never personally liked it. It deserved to win BP, but my favourite film from that year was Groundhog Day. No way was that the better movie, it’s simply my preference.

Are you sure about that? Given a choice, I know which film I’d put into my DVD.
