I noticed you guys like to predict a lot here so I will ask you to look into very distance future. I guess you’ve all probably heard of the list of greatest actors and actresses in American cinema that was published by AFI at the end of the last century.
Right now I’m sure there is a lot of respected and succesful ladies in their fifties or sixties who are safe bet to make it on the next list. But my question’s aiming to our youngest generation. Let´s talk about those who are younger than 35 years old. Of course it´s too early to tell, but right now if you have to chose 15 actresses who will make the list in the future and join the others legends of the cinema. Who would that be ?
Important note !
By greatest actress I just don’t mean acting ability. This is not the list of 15 best actresses. It´s more like the list of those of this era who will be remembered the most by future generations. Let’s be honest Marilyn Monroe wasn’t sixth best actress of the last century, but it’s obvious why she made the list. So I guess it’s more combination of acting ability, filmography, popularity etc. Please share your thoughts.
P.S. If you have the urge to put on the list someone who is little older than 35 I´m okay with that, but main focus should be on our youngest generation.
Thank you.July 12, 2015 at 4:04 am #190112
Jennifer Lawrence and Jessica Chastain seem to be sure bets.July 12, 2015 at 6:03 am #190113
I put Marion Cotillard and Cate Blanchett ahead of everyone else by 10 miles.July 12, 2015 at 6:11 am #190114

Cate Blanchett is 46. Marion Cotillard is 39. OP is talking about the younger generation. I mentioned Jessica Chastain because her breakout was only 4 years ago so it feels like she’s younger and fresher in the industry.July 12, 2015 at 6:33 am #190115
If we are talking actresses 30 and under some I think are future legends will be:
Mia Wasikowska.July 12, 2015 at 6:51 am #190116
Jennifer Lawrence seems like the obvious choice. Even if you are someone who isn’t a huge fan of her work, there’s no denying her popularity right now (appearing in two huge franchises- The Hunger Games and X-Men), and she already has 3 Oscar nominations and 1 win for Best Actress (Silver Linings Playbook)- all at the age of 24 (and she may very well add a 4th nomination this year for ‘Joy’). Add to that wide spread critical support with 4 Golden Globe noms and 2 wins (Best Actress- Silver Linings Playbook, Best Supporting Actress- American Hustle), a BAFTA win (Best Supporting Actress- American Hustle), and a Best Actress (Silver Linings Playbook) win from the LA Film Critics and a Best Supporting Actress (American Hustle) win from the New York Film Critic’s Circle.July 12, 2015 at 7:10 am #190117
I am missing Scarlett Johansson on this thread.July 12, 2015 at 9:46 am #190118
Jessica Chastain seems like a safe bet. I would also throw Marion Cotillard in there.July 12, 2015 at 11:11 am #190119
Jennifer Lopez has a better shot on such a future list than Marion Cotillard. Does the general population even know who she is?July 12, 2015 at 11:19 am #190120
Blanchett, Cotillard, Winslet, Bening, Lawrence, Chastain seems to be the pecking order after the Great Streep!!!July 12, 2015 at 11:46 am #190122

Are we talking about the same Jennifer Lopez? The Reality tv judge and actress who hasn’t had a hit film as a leading lady in more than 10 years since Monster in Law’s $80 million gross? Or did The Boy Next Door’s $35 million suddenly bring her back to prominence.? Or that MTV Movie award win for Scared as Shit Performance?
I bet she is way more popular than Cotillard, but not for her acting or her movies.
The only list she is getting on is sexiest.July 12, 2015 at 12:03 pm #190123
I see Rachel McAdams or Kerry Washington eventually becoming huge and legends.July 17, 2015 at 6:02 pm #190124
