After having seen 10 Cloverfield Lane yesterday, I thought the film was good, but what makes it even better is John Goodman’s performance. He steals every scene he is in, introducing different layers to his characters: black comedy, reclusive mystery, and forceful, brooding menace.

While he would have quite some hurdles to overcome (early release date, genre film), the guy has never been nominated before. So he should finally get recognition for his film work.

Looking forward to see this film soon! Yeah, I agree. This guy is a definition of character actor yet never gotten any Oscar nomination. Such a shame…

Gosh, I hope so. He was so supremely robbed for “Barton Fink” back in the day. I suspect the critics’ awards would ultimately need to embrace him, though, for him to be a player eight or nine months from now.

Quick question – will I have to see Cloverfield to understand 10 Cloverfield Lane?

I’ve never seen it, but after seeing the trailer for this before I watched Deadpool, and the growing buzz for it, I’m now very interested in seeing 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Definitely not. It’s more of a spiritual successor to Cloverfield. Similar DNA, but different storyline and characters. No need to watch Cloverfield first.

I’ve been waiting for Mary Elizabeth Winstead to Brie Larson and earn the mainstream cred she deserves. She was so good in Smashed. How is she here?

Oh, she’s great as always. She was so terrific and her character was so well-written, it feels like she comes from the same DNA as Sarah Connor. I would consider her for Best Actress. She was just that impressive.

Goodman is a toss-up to be in the lead or supporting categories, but yeah, he’s a definite contender. Here’s my Movie Minute Review on the flick:

After seeing a trailer for 10 Cloverfield Lane, I couldn’t help but wonder if he could actually get an Oscar nomination for it, even though it is rarely the type of movie the Academy gives out acting awards for. Let’s hope this happens. Goodman is long overdue.

I wasn’t a fan of the movie to be honest but he was really good. That ending though….holy damn!

He is possibly the best I’ve ever seen him, definitely in recent years, in 10 Cloverfield Lane. Just got back from seeing it!

So many different levels he needs to play. Do we trust him? Should we be in fear of him? What the hell is his game?

Incredibly complex performance, that would be worthy of awards consideration. Mary Elizabeth Winstead is also brilliant too!
