I am really hoping Lenny Abrahamson gets a Best Director nomination in all the various groups that have a Best Direction category, esp. the Oscars – his achievement is truly remarkable: keeping the first half of the movie interesting despite such a limited space; creating suspense; and especially eliciting such strong moving performances and working so successfully with an 8 year old actor (playing a five year old) and keeping the child from being cloying and/or annoying – instead, the characters are totally real and accessible. He shaped what could be a really downbeat story and helped (with the help of a superb script by the novelist, who did such a great job of making it cinematic yet keeping the tone of the book intact) create a truly uplifting movie that made me think about the things I take for granted every day while living this life. It’s truly a great and exceptional job of direction. I hope the director’s branch – and the various critics groups – cite this truly remarkable director (:
There are more films to see before coming to conclusions about who the five nominees will be; but as of right now I would put Lenny Abrahamson’s direction of Room in first place (:
Dont see why this needs its own thread
Give Paul Thomas Anderson an Oscar.
