After having just seen Mad Max: Fury Road, and thinking it is the best movie of the year so far, I would love to see it get plenty of awards recognition across the board. In particular in the following categories:

    Best Picture
    Best Director
    Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Actress (Charlize Theron. Some have already generated buzz on here for her performance and I’m certainly for it)
Best Supporting Actor (Nicholas Hoult, who battles Theron’s status for best in show imo for his portrayal of the bloodthirsty yet optimistic psychopath Nux)
    Best Cinematography
    Best Costume Design
    Best Editing
    Best Sound Mixing
    Best Production Design
    Best Makeup

Last week, I already started my own FYC post for Alicia Vikander’s performance in Ex Machina. But I figured by creating this thread as well as other ones potentially in the future, I might hopefully create a trend of FYC posts for genre films. This effort might seem like doomed optimism, but I would really love to see voters think outside the box when filling their ballots.

I’d toss completely the Screenplay one and left pending Picture, but YES for all of the rest. A big FYC.

Never before could an outlandish, will-not-happen FYC campaign actually possibly happen!

Another desperate fan campaign. It’s not going to happen. We live in a world where your film is only matter if you are dealing with big “Hollywood-important” issues. War. Racism. Homophobia. Mental illness or other diseases. Abuse. And so on. The way “Snowpiercer” (one of the greatest movies in the last few years) or “Edge of Tomorrow” or “Looper” or many other genre-films were snubbed before, this one will be snubbed as well.

I certainly don’t think you’re wrong, but the difference is that this movie will be bigger than all of those at the box office (looking at $50 mil this weekend), and it’s reviews are overwhelmingly positive, much more than even ‘Snowpiercer’ or ‘Looper’. I say go for it… Push this movie for everything we can and hope the academy listens and takes some risks.

I would support all the below the line nominations and possibly director. The writing was the problematic area for me and the performances were good but I wasn’t blown away

I think it has a costume design one for sure. Never really considered Theron though but it could happen (haven’t seen the movie yet but my friend has and has raved about her)

Yes. Also there’s the George Miller factor. He’s not Rian Johnson or Joon-Ho Bong. He has history with the Academy, 4 nominations/1 win.

Snowpiercer and Looper not only had their genre against them, but the scale too. Fury Road has a lot more chances to at least make real buzz.

Just saw it. It’s fantastic I’d FYC it for especially for picture, director, actress, sound editing, sound mixing, editing, costumes, and cinematography. My favorite film of the year so far by far.

Yeah and “Instellar” (pretty good, but come on…) is the 27th…so that’s all we need to know about the IMDB’s Top 250.

Yeah I think some of this “Best Movie ever” talk is a bit to much. It’s a fun film but by no means the greatest

So, on Twitter, I just created my own hashtag to help create buzz for this film: #SendMadMax2TheOscars. If you guys are on Twitter and support this idea, I encourage you folks to tweet this hashtag so we can make this happen.

I would argue that Mad Max as a feminist movie with women taking their agency into their own hands and being their own liberators is very timely with both Boko Haram and ISIS/ISIL using sexual eploitation of women as a core weapon of control.  It’s as much Furiosa and the wives’ story as it is Max’s.

I would say that this is the first serious contender in the technical categories, as well as cinematography, costume design, and makeup.  I liked the score but feel that it’s too outside what is usually nominated.

I wholeheartedly support this campaign. This movie was incredible. Yes, it’s a total long shot, but if it doesn’t do well at least below the line, then the academy is insane. I’m not sure why you excluded Sound Editing from the original post, but that’s a real possibility. I do wish the film could get recognition for the practical effects used, which were at times jaw-dropping. Maybe Oscars will look at this as a way of recognizing the franchise as a whole?
