It’s half way of the year, and award season begins in a couple of month. I’d love to know your top 10 (or top how many every you saw) this year!

To me this year’s been a bit slow. This was the summer of successful sequels, imo anyway and that’s pretty exciting, but none of them really broke-out the way they should have.

    1) Under the Skin
    2) Boyhood
    3) Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
    4) Nymphomaniac Vol 1
    5) Snowpiercer
    6) The Grand Budapest Hotel
    7) The Immigrant
    8) X-Men: Days of Future Past
    9) Only Lovers Left Alive
    10) Joe
    11) Captain America: WInter Soldier
    12) Guadians of the Galaxy
    13) 22 Jump Street
    14) The Lego Movie
    15) How to Train Your Dragon 2

    To watch: Locke, The Rover

This turns out to be quite difficult for me….hmmmm…lol

Some of these will get pushed down as the season progresses, plus, I’m not sure I can come up with a half-way ten.

    The Grand Budapest Hotel

    Belle

    For a Woman

    Fed Up

    The Grand Seduction.

There are quite a few others I enjoyed but overall I feel ‘blanded’. I thought films like Godzilla were fun and Apes is certainly more than simple explosions and gunfire.

ETA: Forgot Snowpiercer. Love that very unique film.

Great lists everyone! I love the ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Under the Skin’ mentions, the latter is perhaps my favorite film of the year. Maybe ‘Boyhood’ can change that, but not bloody likely. lol

I am very behind and need to catch up on a bunch: ‘The Rover’, ‘Enemy’, ‘The Double’, ‘Locke’, ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ to name a few.  Like the arthouse/indie batch this year is actually not that bad.

From what I’ve seen, and I’ve been out of the States for several weeks,
I was most impressed this year by:

    1. The Immigrant
    2. Stranger by the Lake
    3. Under the Skin
    4. The Grand Budapest Hotel
    5. Nymphomaniac
    6. Le Weekend

There’s still quite a few I need to see (I’m sure Boyhood, for example, will make my top 10), but here’s what I’ve got so far:

    1. The Grand Budapest Hotel
    2. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
    3. Snowpiercer
    4. The Lego Movie
    5. The Double
    6. Under the Skin
    7. Noah
    8. Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    9. X-Men: Days of Future Past
    10. 22 Jump Street

    Begin Again

    Noah

    Enemy

    Edge of Tomorrow

    Chef

I guess I’d add these five to make ten, but it’s very tenuous. Havent seen Under the Skin yet! Surprising for me.

There’s still a lot I need to see, but it’s already quite a bit competitive for me.

    1. Boyhood (Richard Linklater)
    2. Closed Curtain (Jafar Panahi & Kambuzia Partovi)
    3. Manuscripts Don’t Burn (Mohammad Rasoulof)
    4. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (Ana Lily Amirpour)
    5. Tom at the Farm (Xavier Dolan)
    6. We Came to Sweat: The Legend of Starlite (Kate Kunath & Sasha Wortzel)
    7. Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me (Chiemi Karasawa)
    8. The Grand Budapest Hotel (Wes Anderson)
    9. How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Dean DeBlois)
    10. Ida (Paweł Pawlikowski)
