    Hello Derbyites!

    This is your old buddy Pacinofan. Been on the site since 2003 I believe, though not on much lately, and for the past four or five years (I really should keep track of these things) I have compiled members’ graded rankings on the films they have seen. From those rankings I compile a top ten list of the year as well as a bottom ten. I also release a ranked list of all the films seen with the grades based on the members’ votes .

    Here is how it works. You will send me a list of the films you have seen in 2011 with a letter grade attached to each film. The grades will then be computed as a numerical score as follows:

    A+ = 5
    A= 4.5
    A- = 4.0
    B+ = 3.75
    B= 3.5
    B- = 3.0
    C+ = 2.75
    C= 2.5
    C- = 2.0
    D+ = 1.75
    D = 1.5
    D- = 1.25
    F = 1.0

    I will be running the Rankings from 1/20/12 until  either 2/19/12 or 2/26/12. I will decide as we go along if I want to be going right up until the Oscars. Each Sunday beginning 1/20 I will give the week’s results with a ranked list and a top ten and bottom ten list. To make it into the Rankings a film must be seen by at least 5 Goldderby members. Even though I will not be giving results next weekend, out of town folks, you can begin posting your lists of films immediately. In the past I have had a rule that members must have at least 100 posts to take part in it, to avoid people fraudulently spoiling the results with multiple false Rankings, but since this new version of Goldderby has not been running that long I will wave that rule this year. I just ask that you Goldderby members do not toy with the results by sending Rankings under multiple names or by giving falsely negative or positive grades to artificially effect the Rankings. Let your grades reflect your real feelings.

    If you have sent an initial list of films and need to add more films please send them to me in individual posts. I do not go back to old lists once I have computed the results from them. Also, if you change your mind about a grade send me that in an individual post but you need to mention both your initial grade and your new grade so I can just change the numbers. If you do not remember your initial grade I will not be able to change it. Under any circumstances please keep such changes to a minimum.

    You can submit  your Rankings either in this thread or send them to me personally. I prefer they be posted for everyone to see but if you want privacy I will allow personal posts to me as I have always allowed that option.

    Anyways, that is all I have to say in way of introduction. Hopefully many of you have been part of this yearly event before and are familiar with how it works.

    So start sending me your lists and let the 2011 Goldderby Rankings commence!

    The past films to come in first place in the Goldderby Rankings, or at least while I was compiling them, were “The Social Network”, “The Hurt Locker”, “WALL-E” and “Persepolis”.

    I very quickly got sick of it and did not like much of anything in it outside of Rutger Hauer himself. Outside of him the acting was attrocious. That may have been on purpose but it crossed over from fun-bad to just bad-bad to me.
