Bear with me here, its my first proper post. I hunted through the last 6 pages and couldn’t see anything familar so here we go.
While I think on paper that Best Actress Comedy/Musical could be the strongest line-up this category has seen in YEARS (Jennifer, Lily, Maggie, Amy and I’m praying the GG ignore Meryl and give Melissa McCarthy her first GG nod (isn’t it weird she hasn’t had one?)) the actor line-up is looking horrible! So horrible, I put in Paul Rudd for Ant Man out of desperation.
Bradley Cooper in Burnt? Robert de Niro in The Intern? I mean really – who is worthy of being nominated in this category outside of Matt Damon (such a comedy), Steve Carrell and Bill Hader!
What would your line-up look like? Who are some left-field nominations that you would love to see overtake some of these terrible options? I’d love to see them throw Jason Statham a surprise category fraud bid for Spy, or will they just go all out star f**kery and give it to Johnny Depp in Mortdecai?November 29, 2015 at 7:45 pm #199597
Haha, I just figured that Jennifer is an absolute lock (whether deserved or not) whereas the fifth slot in my eyes is between Meryl and MelissaNovember 29, 2015 at 11:43 pm #199598
I absolutely agree. I’m really scratching my head on this one. I currently have predicted:
Steve Carell / THE BIG SHORT
Matt Damon / THE MARTIAN
Robert De Niro / THE INTERN
Ben Kingsley / LEARNING TO DRIVE
Thomas Mann / ME AND EARL AND THE DYING GIRL
I think Steve Carell and Matt Damon are safe. De Niro and Kingsley may make it based on name. Mann would find it tougher to get the nomination but sometimes the Globes surprise. De Niro, Kingsley and Mann could all easily be replaced with Bradley Cooper, Joaquin Phoenix or Mark Ruffalo. I’d love Bill Hader to get in but I think he’ll be given the Melissa McCarthy treatment and be ignored.November 30, 2015 at 7:40 am #199599
I’d love to see them go crazy and nominate Paul Rudd for Ant-Man. His film is funnier than Joy probably will be (Why the heck is that in Comedy? I’ve heard it’s very dark.).November 30, 2015 at 11:26 am #199600
They should embrace Bill Hader. Amy Schumer is in Trainwreck they should go nuts for the film. I see it getting for nominations. Also watch out for Tilda Swinton with Trainwreck (remember Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder)November 30, 2015 at 12:32 pm #199601
If Tilda Swinton got in for Trainwreck, I’d be riveted. Girl STOLE every scene she was in!November 30, 2015 at 1:39 pm #199602
Lol my supporting actress line up this year is totally comedy.
Swinton, Byrne, Walters, Smith *Marigold Hotel* and Wiig (Diary of a teenage girl) – I can totally dream right?December 2, 2015 at 11:18 am #199603
I’ve heard reports that Christian Bale has been deemed a lead by the HFPA for The Big Short, which is similar to what happened to Christoph Waltz for Big Eyes last year. If he could be added to the predictions centre, that would be much appreciated, as he is definitely going to get nominated.
