Plus Leonardo DiCaprio as my prediction for supporting actor.
I don`t think Zero dark thirty is winning anything it is a piece of propaganda torture, waterboarding endorsing movie and Chastain was miscast no way those foreign journos are giving it anything, Cotillard will win for her breathtaking performance in rust and bone, best picture either lincoln or Argo being very american could hurt lincoln here but its 100% locked at the oscars.
Seany, I believe that ZD30 will probably win Drama Actress, possibly Director (unless Spielberg will start to clean up all of the awards), and possibly Screenplay (my pick is Lincoln however.) It will probably lose Drama Picture to Lincoln or Argo.
Right now I say : Lincoln, DDL, Chastain and Ben Affleck.
Chastain wasn`t very good here she`s a good actress but i found her much more effective as a mossad agent in the debt than as a cia agent here, plus she doesn`t have any big oscar moments its a quiet cold performance i suspect you guys have not seen the movie and just going by what some jingoistic american critics are saying.
But the movie doesn’t endorse torture!! Have you seen it? It clearly opens with the disturbing torture sequence, BUT THIS DOES NOT reveal anything regarding Bin Laden. It’s only when Jessica Chastain’s Maya and Jason Clarke’s Dan try a different approach and speak to their prisoner over lunch, tricking him into believing he already revealed something to them (a technique used by interrogators), that he gives them the courier’s name that drives the movie.
Zero Dark has a good chance to win the Globe for Best Drama. A major reason I see is that Bigelow was not honored a few years ago for The Hurt Locker, a decision that surely makes some HFPA voters cringe. Could really help her win Best Director. Best Drama is going to be much tighter between Zero Dark and Lincoln. Chastain does have a few “Oscar” scenes…the hallway scene with Kyle Chandler? That’s my two cents.
