Did she get any awards buzz back in 1999? I think she’s pretty great in this. It was just on HBO yesterday.

Especially since (I believe) this was the first time she had not played a proper British girl.

Ah, ‘Fight Club’, a movie that helped spawn the YOLO generation of today. Even though they completely missed the point.

I think it was a very divisive film when it was released, and it hardly gain any award traction for the film itself, let alone its actors.

I wish this film as a whole got noticed by the AMPAS. Best Picture, Edward Norton in Best Actor, Brad Pitt in Best Supporting Actor and Helena Bonham Carter in Best Supporting Actress would have been wonderful – Pitt could have actually won over Michael Caine

As someone who read the book after reading the film, I agree that anyone who thought that the message was ‘seize the day’ or ‘Yolo’ was absolutely missing the point. I mean, films have different meanings for different people, but in terms of intention, it was clear by the tone, the selection of narrator and the characterizations, that the author did not believe at all in what Tyler Durden was doing.

Anyway, the Bonham Carter point. I don’t see her as better than the five actual nominees, but she would certainly be a worthy nominee if the film had gained more traction.

It’s the only good performance Bonham Carter has ever given.

I agree with Macbeth – Brad Pitt is my choice for Best Supporting Actor that year.

She was Ok in the movie but was the best in the King’s Speech in my opinion.
