    PAGING Focus Features  !!!

    *

With the release of three (3) character posters for Suffragette today
    http://movieweb.com/suffragette-movie-poster/

it seems obvious on the push for your forthcoming Awards Season campaign for the film.

    *

Why not FOCUS the campaign narrative for Meryl Streep on it being one of the SHORTEST Nominated performances in the Oscar history  !!!

    *

And for the Academy Acting Branch, a good reminder to adhere and address to this saying:

“There are no small parts, just small actors” — Stanislavsky, the creator of The Method

Do you really think a performance’s brevity should be the focal point of an awards campaign? “Hey, nominate this person – they only have one scene, but they’re really good!”

Why not ???  The Oscar clip (30-sec ?) supposedly showcase the single most worthy scene of the nominee.

Pankhurst’s Tour-de-Force Rally Speech by Streep should be enough to justify its “Coattail” Nomination as Supporting Actress.

    It’s an ICONIC Role and there’s a Shortest-Performance PRECEDENT to boot !!!

Ergo, the ONUS or Challenge will be on Focus Features !!!

How do you even know Streep is going to campaign for such a small role? She might not even make it for Ricki and the Flash this year since it might peak too early and it doesn’t look like awards material. It’s like the thought of Streep (gasp) missing out drives you mad.

I kind of agree with Etchie on this one. By highlighting the fact that she has limited screentime, it encourages voters to reflect on the amount of impact she has. If she really has a lot of impact, like Straight in Network, then this strategy could work. The acting branch loves when an actor is able to elevate the material above what is in the script, and Streep has certainly done this in the past. If voters walk out of this film thinking, ‘wow, Meryl was amazing in that’, then it’s actually a pretty clever strategy to focus the campaign on the fact that she didn’t have as much to work with as the other contenders. Having not seen the film, I can’t say for sure if that’s the case.

    Have you seen it?

I’ve seen the 7 mins. or so RAW footage-clip of the Tour-de-Force Rally Speech posted by Daily Mail Online during filming.

It was very impressive and the entire scene was done in 1-Take which is another “campaign narrative” that can be deployed.

According to Word on the Streep, the entire scene or clip was shown in the Women in the World Summit.

According to someone who had seen the Test Screening, Streep entire scene may not exceed 3 mins.

I accept that this is a “Coattail Nomination” like Jacki Weaver in Silver Linings Playbook.

BUT ….. this is Emmeline Pankhurst not a fictional Dolores in SLP ….. who in 1999 Time named Pankhurst as one of the 100 Most Important People of the 20th Century  !!!

Ergo a DARE to Focus Features ….. if Harvey Weinstein can make Dolores-Jacki Weaver happen ….. WHY NOT PANKHURST-STREEP  !!!

    Oh, how joyful!

We’re now campaigning for cameo performances, aren’t we, Etchie-pie?

Meryl Streep is a pretty good actress, and I am not against her getting nominated for Oscars, but only when she is worthy.

No matter how good your baby-girl is in Suffragette, we can’t avoid the fact that she has a really tiny role that was the result of what, two or three days on set? It was definitely less of a performance and more of a way for Streep, a feminist, to take part in this historic story. There is not a chance in hell that she is going to be Oscar worthy for her role here. I haven’t seen it, but I can assure you that she won’t be.

Please don’t go and say that Beatrice Straight is comparable. Did you see her performance? She gave such raw and intense power in Network, and that film was a juggernaut, with nominations across the board. Other than nominations for Best Picture, Best Actress and maybe Best Supporting Actress (for Helena Bonham Carter), and a few technical and design categories, Suffragette is not going to be nearly as successful. Same goes for Jacki Weaver, who was in a film that the AMPAS truly did embrace and gave all the possible Big Eight nominations.

Etchie, Meryl Streep is not getting nominated for an Oscar for Suffragette, plain and simple.

Now go and rewatch Prime for the fifteenth time or something please

I’d say Meryl’s chances for Oscar ‘glory’ are just, marginally better than Bridget Fonda’s, asking Sam Raimi to give her a part in Evil Dead…..

I kind of see what Etchie is saying. Its very clear that they are pushing Mulligan, Streep, and maybe Bonham Carter for awards consideration. The Academy already loves Meryl, so if her scene is impactful, she will more than likely be considered for a nomination.

    AMEN … AMEN … AMEN …

How many times had Streep DEFIED & BROKE the Rules, Norms & Conventions with regards to The Academy Awards ???

The BALL in your court Focus Features  ….. Streep already have built-in support within The Academy …. Make it work, Do Not SQUANDER it and Don’t DROP THE BALL !!!

It’s not as if Streep is lacking in nominations and wins to justify a huge ‘NOMINATE HER AND VOTE FOR HER TO WIN’ campaign. If it happens, then I doubt it will be because of a huge campaign.

If so …..  it will be SAD and a SLAP in the face of England  !!!

Imagine ….. a fictional Dolores-Jacki Weaver in Silver Linings Playbook BEATING their own Emmeline Pankhurst  !!!
