Just looked up more about Cheryl Boone Isaacs- beautiful woman, seems perfectly lovely. But I am wondering how she got the gig for President of the Academy? Her credentials (according to IMDB) seem thin; what qualifies someone to take this position?

Her credentials are hardly ‘thin’. She has led the marketing efforts of both Paramount and New Line and she’s served on the Board of Governors for over a decade. Plus, the efforts to diversify the academy since the LA Times pointed out the Academy was overwhelmingly white, older and male certainly helped her get the position. But she is clearly qualified for the job.

Thanks for the info! I was just wondering. She is very graceful and the camera loves her- nice to see her at the helm.

Her brother Ashley Boone was a pioneering black marketing executive who oversaw releases for Fox back in  the 70s and 80s (including Star Wars Turning Point and Julia). He then moved only to oversee films for Alan Ladd Jr – The Right Stuff among them – as well as Chariots of Fire and later Thelma and Louise. He was openly gay, and died at 55. He also was earlier a Governer for the Academy.

I had a brief encounter with her a few years ago in a work situation, and found her expertise to be mainly in marketing rather than other aspects of the business (it wasn’t a particularly pleasant encounter, but it was a one time thing). I hear from others that in her area of expertise she is well respected and reasonably well liked. She had previously worked at both New Line and Paramount (at New Line was involved with the Rush Hour films and Lord of the Rings). She is married to producer Stanley Isaacs.
