How do I access Gold Derby’s Oscar coverage? The home page simply has a menu for Emmy predictions. Shouldn’t there be a big Oscar menu as well? Or is there and I’m just missing it.

Predictions will not be up until next month.

Yeah, I can’t say I’m an instant fan of the new site. If you’re not interested in the Emmys, and I’m not, it’s virtually a desert here.

Agreed. And I could be wrong, but I think that the Oscar predictions had already opened by this time of the year last year.

What I’m upset about is that there isn’t even an Oscars option in the menu. Yes, there wouldn’t be many predictions, but some other website at least have “our very early prediction” articles. Also, I would like to have all Oscar news easily accessible.

It’s really unfortunate that the redesign has been such a mess and so broken. I hope they can fix it because this site in the past has been a fantastic resource.

I think the reason why they’re not open right now Gus is that the race is still too early to call. Remember back in 2014, when predictions opened up, everyone including the Gold Derby editors thought that Unbroken would be a big frontunner in the Oscar race. They were very wrong. In August 2015, Gold Derby editors assumed Joy would sweep the nominations, when in the end it was only nominated for Best Actress for Jennifer Lawrence and nothing else.

The Birth Of A Nation for a while seemed like the legitimate frontrunner, but I don’t think that’s the case anymore due to the old sexual assault allegations against Nate Parker coming to light in the media, which may make some Academy voters hesitant to honor the film in categories that directly involve him, since Parker pulled a Warren Beatty and starred in, wrote, directed and produced this film.

Once reviews come in from the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals, then we’ll know for sure what the true frontrunners are.

That has never been a problem around here, and it isn’t a problem for any of the other sites in this business.

I’d imagine the predictions will open up in a few days, but I could be wrong. End of August seems to be a good time to know sort of what we’re talking about while still leaving room for shifts and surprises. I can’t imagine predictions not being opened before September. In my opinion, they should be open all year, if only to laugh at ourselves for thinking something early and being horribly wrong. (And we’d have something to talk about besides the Emmys, which I couldn’t care less about)
