Any moment now some director will have the nerve to try to make a remake of this film, who would you like to see in the still non made remake?

I don’t think this film should ever be remade, because it would just be poor poor horror, but I love casting, so here it goes:

    Chris McNeil – Vera Farmiga
    Regan McNeil – Elle Fanning
Father Damien Karras – Joaquin Phoenix
Father Lankester Merrin – Max Von Sydow (again, I don’t see why not) or Terrence Stamp

    Chris McNeil – Vera Farmiga
Regan – ? (I thought of Chloe Grace Moretz but she did Carrie already and I didn’t like it so I ruled her out but honestly an unknown would be nice)
Damien Karras: I like the Joaquin Pheonix idea but what about Chris Pine

Definitely Vera Farmiga. She is the perfect example of a modern-day scream queen that also happens to be a terrific actress. The new Jamie Lee Curtis.

As for Regan I’m going to say Kara Hayward though I too would rather see an unknown in the role like Blair was at the time.

Like Farmiga for Chris, Joaquin Phoenix is a perfect choice is a perfect choice for Karras.

For Merrin I would go out on a limb and say Mads Mikkelsen.

Chris MacNeil is an actress shooting her latest film. There is no other more recognizable actress presently working than Angelina Jolie. She enjoys making a popcorn flick. The mother of six would be great.

Father Merrin is a frail priest with a commanding presence. Sidney Poitier fits the bill nicely.

Father Karras is an angry man. I would like to see Michael Fassbender keep his clothes on and play a priest.

Regan is the toughest of the four leads to fill. Just because she is the right age and did well in The Hunger Games films, I will cast Willow Shields who pprtrayed Primrose Everdeen.

I think you’d need an unknown teen for the kid. It makes it less campy somehow. The mother needs someone not afraid to really go for it. You need a little theatricality in the role.

I felt Julianne Moore seemed kind of held back in the Carrie remake. It was like they wanted her to seem sympathetic and made her more depressed than full out crazy. Did Moore do much press for that film? I didn’t see her around much.  I wonder if she was happy with the finl results.

I could see Farmiga as Chris McNeil or maybe Laura Linney or even Jodie Foster.  Maybe Ian McKellen as Merrin.   Maybe Josh Brolin as Karris.

    Andre Braugher as Father Merrin

I kinda LOVE this idea. If they ever remake it, this would be awesome.

I nominate Miley Cyrus as Regan. I know, I know–Ms Cyrus is a wretched actress, but with that tongue and attitude of hers, she would be a natural for the part because she already seems half-possessed.

In other words, this remake is a terrible idea, just like remaking Carrie or The Thing or any other modern horror classic. It is doomed to failure, so why even bother?

The problem with this is that what made The Exorcist so legendary was that in 1973, there were no real possession/exorcism movies, and it was new and controversial and something we’d never seen before.

Now, 40 years later, we have had dozens of exorcism films, and every second horror film these days is about demonic possesion. So if they remake it, they will probably slap on a romantic storyline between Chris and Father Karras, make Father Merrin a sassy old man and have poor shock tactics.

If they want to remake a horror film, they should try a more atmospheric horror like The Haunting (which I know has a bad remake already) or Picnic at Hanging Rock

I really like the ’82 remake or retelling. I like all things John Carpenter.

It looks more and more like they’re running out of ideas. Perhaps they’re considering remaking Gone With the Wind, only the musical version?

Best of luck to them on this one.

    Charlize Theron

    Morgan Freeman

    Sam Worthington (not kidding)

Agree that Carpenter’s film from 1982, a remake of the 1951 horror classic, is the exception to the rule and is a great movie. I was actually thinking about the 2011 remake of The Thing, which was billed as a “prequel,” not a remake, nevertheless still a disappointment in comparison to the previous two movies…
