or at least dedicate the award to Cate like Juliette Binoche did to Bacall. If any of the other four wins, she didn’t earn it because of her performance but because of the scandal.February 22, 2014 at 9:24 pm #142587
It’s not gonna happen but I can only accept Judi Dench.February 22, 2014 at 9:42 pm #142588
Only Dame Judi may walk up there with diginity.
This will proabbly be locked lol.
Honestly, the ‘scandal’ won’t significantly affect her, especailly after winning bafta.February 22, 2014 at 10:34 pm #142589
Totally agreed. Any person, should they win and beat Cate, who goes up there and believes that she won fairly would be severely delusional. That would be ridiculous. In the slim chance something like that happened, I would love to see someone be the better person (proving that it is possible even in nasty Hollywood), refuse the award (or give it to Cate outright on the telecast, getting a standing ovation), and recognize that she didn’t win based on the performance but purely on the politics, which should have no part in voting. I would be a huge fan of that person for having the decency to do something no one has ever done before, calling into question the very credibility of the award.February 22, 2014 at 10:36 pm #142590
Btw,Binoche was great in The English Patient,so I would not say she got it because of scandals.February 22, 2014 at 10:59 pm #142591
This is stupid. If someone wins over her, then that’s it. The Academy found her the best in the category and has nothing to do with Cate.February 22, 2014 at 11:03 pm #142592
What kind of idiot would REFUSE an Oscar and then dedicate that moment to someone who ALREADY has an Oscar?February 22, 2014 at 11:56 pm #142593
LMFAO. Just no.February 23, 2014 at 12:11 am #142594

I concur. It would be an insult to the Academy to turn down the award. Everyone has their individual opinion. The Academy is the opinion of thousands of experts. Unless there is evidence of malfeasance, there is no reason not to accept the award. To do otherwise is the epitome of hubris.February 23, 2014 at 2:05 am #142595
Oh my… this is ridiculous. BTW, I think Sandra Bullock would be just as deserving of that Oscar (both are brilliant) and if I was a voter, I’d actually vote for Sandra, just because. 😛February 23, 2014 at 2:22 am #142596

If Amy Adams were to win, I would like to say that it was for career achievement.February 23, 2014 at 2:37 am #142597
The only thing that should happen if Cate does lose the Oscar is:
1. She reacts with the same dignified and respectful way any of the other nominees would’ve reacted had she won. She claps and smiles.
2. It’s an award. She is grown. If she does lose, she lost because she didn’t get the most votes. Finished.
3. SHE IS NOT LOSING THE OSCAR!
4. She is not losing the Oscar!February 23, 2014 at 3:03 am #142598
Okay, she’s not losing this Oscar. C’mon. But Judi Dench and Sandra Bullock would make more than deserving winners for their performances in Philomena and Gravity, respectfully. Yes, Cate’s is better, but Dench and Bullock totally deliver win-worthy performances (lets leave out their previous wins). As far as Adams is concerned, she is in a film I loathed, and it would be sad if she won for American Hustle. The only time I ever personally ranked her at no. 1 was for her first performance, Junebug. What a great win that would have been. And my beloved Streep is in the wrong category; she’s Supporting, Roberts is Lead. So I can handle Dench or Bullock beating Blanchett, but that’s it. But again…
Cate’s got this!February 23, 2014 at 3:25 am #142599
I don’t get the need to create another thread related to this when you have a Best Actress Thread.February 23, 2014 at 3:47 am #142600
If Cate loses, every other actress in the category should immediately storm the stage, vowing never to act again until the Academy reverses its decision. All movie studios should cease production of every movie currently filming. No screenwriter should ever think of an original line for any future movie, and the Hollywood sign should be immediately burnt as sacrifice to the angry gods. Every past winner should renounce their awards and all previous films made should be destroyed. Every future baby should be named Cate.
