It is a popular opinion that Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the most overdue actors for an Oscar. Given his wide margin frontrunner status to finally win this year, who would you think should be considered the most overdue actor if DiCaprio does take home the Oscar?

My personal preference would be Johnny Depp, but I think the general concensus will be Brad Pitt.

Despite the fact that I didn’t include him in the poll, I also would love to see Ralph Fiennes win someday, as I see him as one of the most overdue actors.

Phoenix and Gyllenhaal. I have a feeling Liam Neeson is winning next year

    Bingo!

So many others….Tom Wilkinson, a bunch up above, Donald Sutherland, Ethan Hawke, Samuel L Jackson (sometimes), Harrison Ford…gach. Soooo many worthy actors.

A lot of excellent names people are mentioning. Makes me realize it was kind of silly to think I could whittle it down to only 10 options! I used a list of 2x nominated actors as my basis, which makes it all the more surprising which actors have only been nominated once (Liam Neeson, Samuel L. Jackson, Harrison Ford, Jake Gyllenhaal) or not at all (Donald Sutherland), yet are very clearly overdue. I probably could have made a poll with 100 viable options, and still miss out on a lot of overdue actors!

A few other one-time (or never at all) nominees I think are probably now considered overdue (often as a result of being seen as being robbed of a win or nomination) would be Michael Keaton, Idris Elba, Bill Murray, Mickey Rourke, Jim Carrey, Richard Gere, David Oyelowo, John Hawkes, Andy Serkis, Albert Brooks, Ryan Gosling, Gary Oldman, Paul Giamatti, Stanley Tucci, and Eddie Murphy, to name a few, and that’s just on the male side.

Pitt and Cruise aren’t overdue. They’re just overcute.

Out of this list, I like Depp but the real answer is Gary Oldman

Are you serious? Johnny Depp? Its clearly Jake Gyllenhaal who is TOP3 working actor right now alongside Leo and Day-Lewis/Phoenix

If you are going by numbers it would be Albert Finney with 5 nominations and no win.

Can’t find a chart that goes down to 4 nominations. Is there anybody who has 4 and never won?

    Albert Finney!

The actor has more Oscar losses, five from 1963 to 2000, than any other living actor (assuming Leo wins at the end of the month).

Despite his age, he still is capable of a vital, engaging performance. I don’t think many viewers realize that Finney played the groundskeeper of the ancestral Bond homestead in Skyfall. In the thrilling finale of the action film, Finney was able to create a touching portrait of a devoted servant and still stir the embers of desire with Judi Dench.

The man simply needs the right part.

Living actors with four acting nominations and no wins are Warren Beatty and Ed Harris.

Yeah, I have to agree with Jake Gyllenhaal. That guy has been on an amazing run for several years now, and the fact that all he’s got to his name so far is one nomination is kind of insane.
