It kind of annoys me that the Oscars, since they made the rule of voting in between 5 to 10 films, just nominates 9 films. Why not just nominate a tenth film? It’s pretty much the same thing! Well, if that rule had not taken effect, who would’ve occupied that tenth nomination for Best Picture?

Blue Jasmine considering it was nominated for Actress, Supporting Actress, and Original Screenplay.January 16, 2014 at 1:55 pm #134324
I went for Blue Jasmine too.January 16, 2014 at 1:56 pm #134325

It would appear to be between Blue Jasmine and Inside Llewyn Davis. Considering BJ got one more than most expected (BSA) and ILD got one less (no screenplay), I’d go with BJ.January 16, 2014 at 1:57 pm #134327

Lone Ranger would have had a better chance, no?January 16, 2014 at 2:27 pm #134331
I had Saving Mr. Banks as my tenth film (picture is THE ONLY category i got right, 9/9!) but now after seeing how much they did NOT seem to like that movie as much as we were expecting, I agree Blue JasmineJanuary 16, 2014 at 2:50 pm #134332
If they had the previous vote counting situation, the tabulating would have been done different, so it is possible that one or more of the 9 in might not have made it in, and replaced by other films. The new system empasizes passion over consensus; the system used the first year of more than 5 emphasized consensus over passion. So thought this is a fun question (answer: Saving Mr Banks) it isn’t quite the full story, since any of the nominees other than the likely top 6 might not have made the cut.January 16, 2014 at 2:53 pm #134333
Blue Jasmine or Inside Lewyn Davis. Still gutted for the treatement ILD recieved. It almost won at Cannes and is a really great film. Too bad.January 16, 2014 at 3:03 pm #134334
Blue Jasmine without question.
Sally nom seals this, I think.January 16, 2014 at 3:10 pm #134335
Not a fan of more than 5 best picture nods (should be the cream of the crop and consistent with other nominations) – I voted for one of my favorite films of the year, Inside Llewyn Davis. I knew it was a long shot, but so wanted Oscar Isaac to have been nominated for Best Actor. Thus continues my love /HATE relationship with the Academy Awards. Oh well – I’m used to it.
