If Dallas Buyers Club didn’t exist or wasn’t released in 2013, who do you think would’ve won in the acting categories?

I personally think Best Actor would’ve gone to Leo DiCaprio or Chiwetel Ejiofor and Supporting to Bradley Cooper or Barkhad Abdi.

    What about you guys?

Actor would of went to Chiwetel by a thin hair. Who knows about supporting to be honest maybe Abdi, maybe Cooper who knows?

I agree that it would go to Ejiofor by small margins but supporting actor is probably where the Academy would have rallied behind American Hustle and given it to Cooper. There is no way Abdi would have gone all the way and won the Oscar.

Leo would win. The Academy clearly wasn’t crazy about 12 Years A Slave.

Supporting would have been Barkhad. Bradley? Umm no.

Hmm…I’ll say Bruce Dern and Cooper. Just to spread the wealth.

They were even less crazy about Wolf of Wall Street.

I think Ejiofor and Fassbender would have taken it. When was the last time an “actor” won for his/her very first role?

No question, it would have gone to Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender. Before awards season, I would have said Bruce Dern, but Nebraska was to become a bridesmaid all season long, never gaining any traction (thought for sure Dern would win the SAG).

O fer cryin_ out loud. Chiwetel was next behind the winner in number of wins, mentions, nominations, (and reviews). For some reason, noone wishes to acknowledge this basic, numbers thing. Lol.

Ejiofor wins. But really, when it comes to the voting body, anything can and does happen, once every red moon or so. Just because he was close doesnt mean he would win. Argh.

In Supporting….without Leto I believe Fassbender may have had the slight edge, but really, who the f knows_. It_s doubtful they give 12 Yrs both Supporting wins. It might have been interesting to see who they move up. Perhaps from the Nebraska cast. Ditto with several other contenders. But then, is the Academy that generous_This wasnt Doubt, which is a good thing overall, imo.

    Personal Choices_

Tom Hanks, Captain Phillips, a hair over Oscar Isaac Inside Llewyn Davis

I am not a huge fan of the Supporting lineup. Not that any of them were “bad”. It wouldnt have upset me much to see all five wiped for a different five, athough, my personal choice would be Jonah Hill, followed by Fassbender. Um yeah, there are living breathing people like him all over the place. My old neighbour, for starters.

Ejiofor would have won GG and SAG only to lose Oscar to Leo.
Supporting Actor would have been Abdi vs Cooper. Cooper may have won just to throw American Hustle a bone.

^ I guess. But a lot of people already knew who Jennifer Hudson was because of American Idol. I think AI helped Hudson a little bit. Abdi was a complete unknown before the movie, like Quvenzhane Wallis or of Gabourey Sidibe.
