So for the first time since 1994, I will miss the Academy Awards because I will be performing on a cruise ship in Australia. I won’t have time to watch them because usually this is a gig that requires a lot of night activity. As thrilled as I am to be partying it up with Aussies, I hate that I’m going to miss arguably the most exciting telecast in years.

I turn to anyone who can help me- whether it’s recording the show and sending it to me (I will pay for the shipping and handling) or sending me a file – private YouTube video is fine. I’ll do anything to see this, and will be eternally grateful!  Thank you for anything you guys can do!

    O no Jas!

If it was me, I’d heavily lobby the ship’s crew and see if they can get a television set or big screen monitor with a feed. Flash them some leg if you have to.
I know for a fact that cruise ships have televisions, because I watched a World Series on a boat.

Thanks pook- I might have to do that 🙁

The problem lies in difference in day and time. I’ll be in and out of Sydney, Australia. If the Oscars are on Sunday, Feb 24th at 4pm Pacific time, what day/time does that fall for someone in Australia?

Well, you likely already know you’ll “lose” a day. Try 10am the following day. (monday)
ETA: or better yet, ask rockstitution. He’ll know.

The show usually starts at about 8:30pm Eastern time (that’s not counting those painful ABC red carpet shows). From Eastern time, Sydney is 16 hours ahead so that’d be 12:30pm Monday.

BamaEd and pook- thanks SO much for this info! If it’s during the day I have a better chance 🙂

@Bama Ed: Would that be Noonish on Feb 25th for Sydney?

Heavens, what a quagmire. I’m with Pook on that one. Could you talk to the ship and even agree to host or be part of a screening for onboard guests. Surely there will be many that might want to make a night of it.

I’ve found myself in various ports of call during the oscars (Jakarta a few times, Amsterdam, Rome) and I’ve always managed to watch them even if it means inviting myself in so to speak in the middle of the night for some festive oscar viewing.

Yep 🙂 Red carpet pre-show coverage starts earlier, but past few years, actual show started at 12:30pm Monday Sydney time.

Hope you are able to watch them live somehow. I don’t have a way to record them for you or else I would.

Thanks Bama- we’re in a port in New Zealand that day. Which means I might not have any shows or trivias to host- so I might luck out after all!

Well, perhaps I’m being a tad paranoid, but I wouldnt wait until noon, “just in case”. I’d turn whatever air waves I could find on sometime in the morning.
    Experience.

I was in Sydney for the Oscars once. It was on in the afternoon.

I watched it on my hotel TV as well so must have been shown live on at least one channel.

    Shouldn’t be a problem.

    Jason..

I have a few friends in Australia and new Zealand…I will get
the exact date and time for the oscars for you…and i am sure
that somewhere on that ship..there must be a recording device to
record it if you happen to be performing…I think it will be live
and Australia in the winter is 16 hours ahead i think.
of New york Time where i am…..I will definitely
double check for you…so in that case..it might be on at
10am Monday morning..which should work great
for you….and if its live, nobody can ruin it for you.
With all your amazing videos that i enjoy, ill make sure
to help you if i can!!
