Just screened at TIFF. Here are some non-Gleek (because of Darren Criss) reactions from Twitter:
‘Imogene’ might be the best comedy I’ve seen this year. Laughed out loud. Great script and cast! Crowd loved it! #TIFF12
Imogene was a sweet movie. Not Kristen Wiig’s best performance but still worth a watch! The Q & A after the film was awesome! #TIFF12
Imogene was funny, touching, and funny. Great performances. Special appearance by Wiig, Criss and Benning. #TIFF12
Reactions seem mixed. Oddly enough, I think Darren Criss is actually getting some of the film’s best reviews. Bening is getting good but not amazing notices, ditto Wiig. Matt Dillon is an afterthought. I don’t think this will be a contender beyond the Globes, and even then it seems a bit iffy. Not even for Bening.
I’ve always thought that it has been a shame that Berman and Pulcini have never been able to recreate something as unique, memorable, and great as “American Splendor.” They have so much potential! I mean, I don’t want them to do something exactly like “American Splendor” but I would surely appreciate them sprinkle the unique brand of filmmaking they mastered in that film. “The Nanny Diaries” was okay and “The Extra Man” was awful — what a waste of time! I really don’t have high hopes for “Imogene” after reading some of the reviews.
If acquired, isn’t it even possible that Imogene will not be released this year?
