As an aspiring screenwriter, I find the auteur theory to place to much credit on the director for what is a collaborative medium. For instance, I think it’s entirely too common to find reviews where the director’s praised for every decision some of which should be credited to the writer. So, I’m curious. Do any of you have problems with the auteur theory? Which directors do you think fit the profile the most? How has it changed criticism?
