They have been over. I’ve been saying it since SAG noms but stans wouldn’t listen. This is Silence all over again. A sole score nom.

Don’t you mean, a sole STREEP nom, if anything? She was nominated for “Music of the Heart” and “One True Thing,” so she is an easy lock for an Oscar nomination.

    – i see spielberg missing a BD nom

    – meryl is still very much a shoo-in for a best actress nom

    – best actor is looking like: oldman, chalamet, DDL, kaluuya and hanks. The field is pretty weak aside from oldman and chalamet. Post weinstein in hollywood, I just don’t see Franco recovering from these allegations. This makes room for  Hanks to grab the last slot.

I dont see how someone who missed SAG and BAFTA is a lock for anything.

@pj_edwards @eastwest Don’t make me laugh. These 5 reasons are why Meryl is a LOCK to at least be nominated for The Post:

    1. She supposedly gives one of her actual best performances in years. Even people who didn’t care for the movie overall seemed to love her performance.

    2. She is playing a real-life person, which the Oscars love.

    3. There are strong feminist themes to her character’s arc in the film, which will draw the votes of Academy members who don’t want to look sexist and want to appear to support the #MeToo movement.

    4. She still got nominated for Globe + Critics Choice and won the NBR Award, so it isn’t like she has been snubbed this entire season.

    5. She was nominated for “Music of the Heart,” “One True Thing,” “A Cry In The Dark,” “The Bridges of Madison County,” and “Julie & Julia” as the ONLY Oscar nomination for ALL of those films, so it wouldn’t be that odd to see her as the sole Oscar recognition for “The Post.”

I’m not sure if I would say “over” but they are dying quickly.

“Dying quickly” you could have said after it got shut out at SAG. You could even have said that after it won nothing at the Globes. Now, these Bafta nominations are the final nail in the coffin for its Oscar chances. Besides Streep obviously, plus it could just barely slip into Best Picture if there are 9 nominees.

Well Meryl was nominated at GG and BAFTA for The Manchurian Candidate yet missing the cut at the Oscars. It’s possible that she doesn’t get nominated this year.

That was only a snub because she her performance lived in the shadow of Angela Lansbury’s iconic original. Streep originated Katherine Graham, she doesn’t have that same “shadow” thing.

Toying with the idea of seven Best Picture nominees. This is of course irrelevant to all of you because you “cheat” by using all ten slots for Best Picture in the predictions centre.

Is it telling that pretty much the only time that The Post has been nominated for anything was when there were eleven nomination slots? Is the WGA snub really because of visibility issues or were there just not eleven slots? How about ASC?

Best Picture is not going to have eleven slots at the Oscars. It will probably again have eight or nine and there is usually something that gets in without a PGA nomination. It just seems like nobody is passionate about this movie, so how is it going to get the number-one votes required?

I want to see how it plays with audiences over the next couple of weeks, but it is looking like The Post is this year’s Silence. That was snubbed almost across the board, despite 79 on Metacritic and an A CinemaScore.

I really wish that BAFTA had nominated The Post in just one category so that we would know that they had seen it. There is the possibility that it is just another Dallas Buyers Club.

I have already decided that I am predicting 7 nominees: Three Billboards, Get Out, Lady Bird, The Shape of Water, Dunkirk, Call Me By Your Name, and The Post. Of course, I am planning on cheating by adding three additional movies that I don’t think will actually make the final list: I, Tonya, The Big Sick, and The Darkest Hour.

Streep landed at the precursors for One True Thing and Music of the Heart – she’s never once garnered an Oscar nom after missing at both SAG and BAFTA. At best, she’s a coin flip for a 21st nomination.

I’m still predicting The Post to get a lot of nominations. I think viability was the issue with this film which is why it got snubbed at some awards.

Maybe Streep’s time as Streep is over and she is now the female Tom Hanks, who cannot get nominated for anything because great work is expected from him, so he never gets the number-ones.

Streep was nominated at SAGs for each and every one these roles (except ACITD because SAG wasn’t a thing back then) and got a BAFTA nomination for Julie & Julia.

Also, she wasn’t the only nomination for Music of the Heart.

If anything The Post is more comparable to Hope Springs, where she was only nominated for a Golden Globe.
