Chris, Paul, Daniel and I really get SCRAPPY while picking who’ll win the film races at the Globes. Here’s the video slugfest + audio podcast versions:
Some good fun, here. Always love to see you guys play around with each other. Hadn’t realized that you guys were doing the live chat on the night of the Globes. Looking forward to that.
The point about Inarritu in Director was very interesting food for thought. I feel like Linklater is such a near-certainty to win the Oscar by this point that I’m just assuming the Globes will want to follow suit there, but the analysis does have me questioning it.
I’m honestly shocked that you guys didn’t think Grand Budapest Hotel would be the automatic frontrunner for Screenplay over Boyhood/Birdman from the outset, given how popular it’s been (it managed to sweep the Screenplay prizes from NYFCC, LAFCA, and NSFC, after all). And that was even BEFORE Paul brought up the international success and setting. I think Anderson is good to go.
I also lean more towards Tom and less towards Daniel in thinking that Boyhood’s direction far outweighs its writing as far as achievements are concerned, so that’s why I’m sticking with Linklater for Director. Maybe the HFPA will think Picture and Actor are sufficient enough to appease the Birdman crowd?
