This morning on Good Morning America, Ansel Elgort premiered the trailer to Jason Reitman’s new movie “Men, Women & Children” starring Adam Sandler, Judy Greer, Ansel Elgort, Emma Thompson, Jennifer Garner, Dean Norris, and Rosemaire DeWitt.

I’m torn on this. I am in no way a fan of Adam Sandler, but I loved his work in Punch Drunk-Love and Reign Over Me. I’m hoping he gives a great performance here. Tonally, this seems completely off from what I thought it would be – it is apparently a comedy-drama, but I see absolutely no comedy here at all. I don’t know if this will be any good, but I hope it will be after the disastrous Labor Day

    It’s a pretty good teaser.

It doesn’t seem like there’s any omgSTANDOUT performance from anyone. It looks and feels like (and it is) an ensemble film. So best bet for Oscar is in the screenplay category.

Aspects of this looks designed as Oscar bait.  I’ll wait and see how it’s box office is, which I suspect will be very good.

I’m excited for Dennis Haysbert, Rosemarie DeWitt (even though I disliked her immensely in RGM) and J.K. Simmons. I have an aporetic curiosity about Sandler, who I believe can act and do it well, but he doesnt usually choose to do so…..

Up In The Air is probably one of my favorite films of all time. Everything that Reitman did afterwards was underwhelming to me and this looks interesting but not appealing for someone who was expecting more and has watched Disconnect (another ensemble piece with the same theme). I hope it at least helps Simmons consolidate his possible Best Supporting Actor nomination.

Gasps! What about ‘Young Adult’?? It’s so deliciously cynical.  But everything after that……

    Exquisite trailer.

Perhaps Rosemarie DeWitt, supporting actress nominee?

Of course he is predicting her. They’re friends in real life.

That was the first thing that came to mind when I watched the trailer. I really liked that one so I hope it isn’t too like it. Judy Greer might finally get her due with this. I loved her performance in The Descendants so hopefully she’ll stand out here like then. Ansel Elgort was one of those guys that I thought would just be another teen hearttrob without talent but he is actually impressive and he looks like he may do it again here. Also Kaitlyn Dever is in this and I loved her in Short Term 12. I loved Reitman’s “Up in the Air” but I thought Young Adult was a missed oppertunity (I may need to rewatch it) and Labor Day was dredful so I’m hoping this will kick him back in gear.

I really want Sandler to bounce back after all the crap films he’s made. I don’t hate him, I think he’s a talented comedian. And if this is as well received as Punch-Drunk Love, I could see him pull up a couple of nominations in the precursors.

Its hard to tell from the trailer who will stand out, although sandler and dewitt definitely got the most attention. But im still holding out hope for the severely underrated Greer to be the award standout. Imo she was nomination worthy in like 3 scenes of the descendants (and she actually got a precursor nom or two if i remember)
