The Amy Adams poll sparked such great conversation that I thought we could keep it going and this time around poll Julianne Moore. She’s been nominated four times for an Oscar and lost all of them.

For me, I rank her #1 won for 2002 Supp. Actress for The Hours (and that’s only because my true best that year, Michelle Pfeiffer for White Oleander, was snubbed of a nomination; regardless, Moore winning would have made Pfeiffer’s snub a little easier to swallow).

    2002 Lead Actress
    1. Renee Zellweger, Chicago
    *2. Nicole Kidman, The Hours
    3. Julianne Moore, Far From Heaven
    4. Diane Lane, Unfaithful
    n/a. Salma Hayek, Frida

    2002 Supp. Actress
    1. Julianne Moore, The Hours
    2. Meryl Streep, Adaptation.
    *3. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Chicago
    4. Queen Latifah, Chicago
    5. Kathy Bates, About Schmidt

    1999 Lead Actress
*1. Hilary Swank, Boys Don’t Cry
    2. Annette Bening, American Beauty
    3. Janet McTeer, Tumbleweeds
    4. Julianne Moore, The End of the Affair
    5. Meryl Streep, Music of the Heart

    1997 Supp. Actress
    1. Gloria Stuart, Titanic
    2. Julianne Moore, Boogie Nights
    3. Minnie Driver, Good Will Hunting
    4. Joan Cusack, In & Out
    *n/a. Kim Basinger, L.A. Confidential

It’s hard for me to find fault in any of her perfs. Loved her in Savage Grace, Short Cuts, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, where she made such a splash, and all of the above.

From her nominations I guess I’ll go with The Hours; marginal category iffyness but not enough to penalize her for it. Loved her as Amber Waves as well.

She should have won for Boogie Nights. Every other nomination was nice, but she was not worthy of a win.

Should have won for her beautiful performance in Far From Heaven, and probably Boogie Nights too (but I need to watch the films again). Also should’ve been nominated for Magnolia and A Single Man.

I’d have give her 3/4 so far.

    Far From Heaven
    The Hours
    Boogie Nights

Only The End of the Affair wasn’t deserving of a win.

I ranked her first for Boogie Nights and Far From Heaven, so therefore she should have TWO Oscars by now.

She ranked 2nd for me for The Hours.

For The End of the Affair, she would rank 3rd or 4th but I still really liked her in that.

She also should have received nominations for one of her supporting 1999 roles (Magnolia, An Ideal Husband, etc), A Single Man, and The Kids Are All Right.

    Yes.

    1st nom- 3rd
    2nd nom- 2nd
    (The Hours) 3rd nom- 1st
(Far from Heaven) 4th nom- 1st

*her best performance thus far in her career came in Far from Heaven, but A Single Man is creeping up*

She should have won for Boogie Nights and Far from Heaven. Would have been among the best/strongest wins in both categories. Hopefully Maps to the Stars or Still Allice gets her the gold.

She should have won for The Hours, Boogie Nights, and she should have tied with Nicole Kidman in 2002 for far from heavan.

Yes. Moore should have been an easy winner for “Boogie Nights.” I preferred other winners with her other Oscar nominations.

Agree entirely with Beau S.. Moore should have two Oscar statuettes on her mantel and they both would have been amazing wins.  She needs to be in a film that gets more Oscar traction if she wants to win  one.  It’s weird how she never got enough buzz to pull of a nomination for The Kids Are All Right, even in the suppporting category which didn’t really have strong contenders.  If a Single Man had gotten more buzz she could have been nominated, but I guess her role was too short to be noticed.

^ I don’t think Moore even campaigned for supporting for Kids Are All Right – classy move. She did get Globe and BAFTA noms in the lead category.

She’s not supporting in The Hours, but who cares. The best for Boogie Nights and Far from Heaven.
