In spite of the same strong names being announced on the precursors, some other strong names failed to get the same type of mentions in what was a pretty solid year for supporting actors.

From this lineup, I would go with James Franco for in Spring Breakers. But how about you guys?

*Also, for those of you who are wondering why I don’t have Daniel Bruhl on here for Rush, who did get precursor attention, I consider him a co-lead. So I refuse to buy into his placement.

Man.. I actually hate the actual line-up other than Jonah Hill and Abdi. Cooper, Fassbender and Leto all gave in my opinion very flawed performances. Harrison Ford is great on 42, so was Cassey Affleck in Out of Furnace. I’d even prefer McConaughey short performance in Wolf of Wall Street (he stole the movie in 5 minutes of screentime) and (I guess I am alone on this), Benedict Cumberbach’s layered performance in Star Trek: Into Darkness give the best villian in years (even tho he was very different than the first Khan, it was a different character, and one that I enjoyed immensily. I’d say that I like every performance in the pool more than the 3 that I cited, but I’ll go with Gandolfini. Such a great performance.

McConaughey deserved a nomination for either Mud or Wolf of Wall Street. Gandolfini as well (my vote on this poll), and Cooper (nominated for the wrong film). Fassbender is actually my winner of that year, great performance.

I’m leaning towards an actor from Pines, but not Cooper, who can pass as a co-lead or even, THE lead.

    Mendelsohn, Gosling, DeHaan….

I wanted to include Ben Mendelsohn for The Place Beyond The Pines. But I didn’t think it’d let me include two actors from the same film. I tried that with Carrie Coon and Kim Sickens for Gone Girl in my Supporting Actress 2014 polll. But it didn’t work.

Dane DeHaan for TPBtP or David Oyelowo for The Butler.

Of the choices, I went with James.

I go with Matthew McConaughey for his true best performance of the year in Mud.
