2010 was not only a decent year for supporting actors, but supporting actor breakthroughs as well. We had names like Ben Mendelsohn’s cold-eyed Pope in Animal Kingdom, Tom Hardy’s scene-stealing shape shifter in Inception, and Andrew Garfield as the emotional center Eduardo in The Social Network begin to make their mark in Hollywood. But out of all these names, who do you think was the most overlooked? For me, it’s Ben Mendelsohn in Animal Kingdom. How about you folks?
Michael Fassbender was superb in Fish Tank.
Sam Rockwell was great in Conviction and should have gotten a lot of more contention than he did, as should have the underrated-in-this-role Hilary Swank.
Andrew Garfield was so awesome in The Social Network. Such a breakthrough performance for him. His character held such an array of emotions, and Garfield was great at expressing Eduardo’s rage and frustration in the film.
I would’ve nominated Nigel Lindsay for Four Lions.
With you all the way on Mendelsohn – he was even stronger than Jacki Weaver. Brosnan was surprisingly great too, though. Never got the hype for Garfield.
Definitely Andrew Garfield for the Social Network. That snub makes irritates me every time I watch that movie now!
