Her record alone is evidence enough to prove that the Oscars were never a meritocracy.December 31, 2016 at 5:21 pm #1201977896
No , she does.December 31, 2016 at 5:24 pm #1201977899
Anne Bancroft should have won for The Graduate instead of Hepburn winning her 3rd. Kate Hepburn EARNED that Oscar for The Lion in Winter, and should not have won it in a tie.December 31, 2016 at 5:28 pm #1201977901
She shouldn’t have won Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner or On Golden Pond (that actually would’ve been Meryl’s).December 31, 2016 at 7:27 pm #1201977912
She didn’t deserve On Golden Pond, but she did deserve to win for the Philadelphia Story and Alice Adams.December 31, 2016 at 7:36 pm #1201977913
She definitely deserved it for The Lion in Winter, I love Funny Girl as much as the next film gay but it’s sort of insulting that Babs shared it with her. I think she would’ve also been worthy for Little Women, Alice Adams, Bringing Up Baby, The Philadelphia Story, and Long Day’s Journey Into Night. So I don’t have too many gripes with her wins.December 31, 2016 at 8:20 pm #1201977920
Katharine deserved to win for Alice Adams, Long Day’s Journey Into Night and The Lion In Winter (without a tie).
Katharine should have gone Supporting for Suddenly, Last Summer and she would have won. This would add up to four very deserving Oscars.December 31, 2016 at 10:30 pm #1201977944
I don’t think she was deserving for Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner?(Terrible movie, just unbearable), but I have a soft spot for her in On Golden Pond. She was fantastic in The Lion In Winter though- Although Barbra was 4th behind Hepburn, Neal, and Woodward, I feel that the category was so strong that year that I don’t mind a tie- they were ALL amazing. Never seen Morning Glory.

Her Oscar record is a double-edged sword to me. On one hand she certainly deserved to win more Oscars than anyone else, on the other hand she would have deserved to win most of them for roles she didn’t win or wasn’t even nominated for, and shouldn’t have won for the roles she won for. Oh well, that’s Oscars for you.January 2, 2017 at 8:35 pm #1201978584
Morning Glory was an okay movie from the early 1930s, but her performance in Alice Adams was much more deserving of the Oscar. Bette Davis who won her first Oscar for Dangerous which was seen as a make up win for not being nominated for Of Human Bondage. Bette Davis herself said that Katharine was more deserving in Alice Adams.
At the end of the day, I think that some of the Oscar winners do not win for the right movie.January 2, 2017 at 9:34 pm #1201978599
I think she deserved 4 but she won for the wrong performance. I will say that her performance in The Lion in Winter is one of the greatest lead actresses wins ever.January 3, 2017 at 11:14 am #1201978894
It is odd that they kept giving them to her when she didn’t even really seem to want them. She never attended and somebody (George Cukor, I think) tells the story of how he accepted one for her and she let him stay at her house. He put the Oscar in a paper bag on the top shelf of her coat closet and like 20 years later he was staying there again and he opened the closet and the Oscar was still there in the bag exactly like he had left it. She’d never even touched it.
