In order to edit some predictions, does anybody know if Matthew is lead or supporting? Obviously juno and Gina are probably supporting

He’s a tweener, but the film (which I like a lot) has zero chances of being nominated for anything.

There is a chance he might get some votes at some critics group for either lead or supporting for a combination of all 4 of his films (where he was a tweener across the board).

Not even sure if acting branch members will be sent screeners. It would be a waste of money.

What about the gold derby awards? LOL, do you think he’ll be supporting?

Killer Joe is one of my favorite films of the year. It’s a shame it won’t figure into any of the industry awards. Maybe it’ll get some ISA nominations.

And, yes, Matthew M. is a lead in the film. No doubt. But he has a better shot at getting nominated for Magic Mike.

He doesn’t have a fucking chance in hell for that film. And rightfully so.

When Killer Joe was produced in Chicago recently, the actor playing Joe was nominated for (and won) our city’s theater award for Best Leading Actor. I think it is a situation where the cold-blooded killer who has less screentime than the frantic bystanders who we follow from the beginning (think Tom Cruise in Collateral).

That being said, I think he’ll be lucky to get a Globe nod.

I’d place him in supporting for a Razzie myself.

^For Killer Joe?! He nailed it! He’s done solid work all year, all in four films where he was supporting: Bernie, Killer Joe, Magic Mike, and The Paperboy. Even though The Paperboy was a big hot mess (the directing and editing), he was spot-on. I think this has been a “breakout” year for McConaughey, even though he’s been around for years. Even in Magic Mike, he took a role similar to how we’re used to seeing him yet he made it great and original and something unexpected.

Not trying to turn this into “The Matthew McConaughey Thread,” so, in staying on topic, I would place him Supporting for Killer Joe. But even though he is better in Killer Joe, he’d have much bigger chances of getting in for Magic Mike

Honestly, it’s one of those rare cases when I simply do not care. Either him, Emile and Juno are leading, Thomas and Gina supporting or everyone is supporting. With either choice I’m happy camper. No category fraud comitted.

Btw, I absolutely loved that movie and everyone in the cast. The ensemble is more worthy of SAG nod than anyone that actually gets nominated.

What a weird and unsettling movie. The ending saved the movie for me and I also applaud the tone of the film.   At times “Killer Joe” is powered by subtlety and nuance but it’s never too long before frankness and full-on freakyness is slapping you dead in the face.
