Belive it or not yesterday was the first time I watched the 2005 version of King Kong, and I have one question, why wasn’t it nominated for more Oscars? I think it could have won best picture, director, screenplay, and especially best actress for Naomi Watts

Do you think King Kong deserved to be in these categories and possibly win?

Naomi Watts was good but did not deserve a nomination for King Kong.It was one of my top ten films of the 2000s. Trully deserved an Oscar nod for best Picture. One of the greatest remakes of all time

awesome movie. Best Picture would have been deserved. Watts was good but my fav performance in the film is Jack Black.

Poor Kong. These movies generally break my heart every time. Favorite Kong? The first one…..

Btw, Naomi is as good as any of the actors nominated that year.

Jack Black was a pleasant surprise, he delivered a very convincing performance.

Naomi Watts was more superior than everyone (Sides Dench) in that pathetic excuse that was called the Best Actress lineup that year.

I love the original Kong, though I hated “beauty” in that.  She didn’t have enough love for Kong.  I do love Fay Wray, though.

It’s obvious that the best King Kong is the 1976 version.  The best Kong female also happens to be Jessica Lange’s Dwan.  She was the prettiest, the sexiest, the least calculated and the most humane of the three.  Lange also gave the best performance of the three.

I’ve always hated that everyone overlooks that Peter Jackson basically copied Kong and Dwan’s relationship from the 70’s version and inserted it into his “remake of the original”?  Hm…

Abolutely. I see nothing amiss with her nude photoshoots with Playboy. She’s beautiful. Who could blame the Kongster for having a crush on her? It was  terrific way for her to break into film, and look at all she has done since then.

O, and what’s “obvious” about the 70’s version being the best one?   Debatable at best.

I think she could have been nominated but that lineup had Reese Withersppon and Knightly in amazing performances as well so it would have been a tight race.

I just recently watched the 1976 version and agree that Lange was great but overall the movie felt lacking in a way. Maybe a different leading man would have made it better.

What makes the 1976 version special now is that, instead of the Empire State Building, Kong climbs the World Trade Center tower which no longer stands today. Gives me the chills.
