CMBYN and Get Out lead the critics win for Screenplay and Lady Bird (Gerwig) hasn’t been able to win a single televised award. Why bet against them? And the critic win difference between Get out and Lady Bird for screenplay isn’t even close and they started voting after the #metoo movement as well.

By this logic Get Out should be the BP frontrunner, Dafoe and Metcalf would be winning too.

Just cuz the Oscars have changed their voting body to be more inclusive doesn’t mean the guilds have.

The guilds were more inclusive to begin with due to their larger size.

No it’s not the same logic, lady bird lost to 3b at AACTA/GG and then to Get Out at CC. At least Get Out only lost to 3b at AACTA and shown it can beat it somewhere. Lady Bird couldn’t even win a single award at CC. It’s going to lose to 3b next at BAFTA.

The #MeToo movement Hollywood edition started back in October/Nov before the critics runs started, Lady bird couldn’t even capitalize off of that when the movement were taking down actual predators otherwise it would’ve lead those critic wins for screenplay. Now with the Aziz Ansari divisiveness and the misappropriation of the hashtag behind the movement. more people are being turned off by it.

Get Out won a PGA and DGA award.

the Oscars also found a way to make the Best Actor Lineup have 4/5 of them in a BP, when before the noms out, people thought only 2 of the best actor nominee would be in a bp nominee

The Oscars also found a way to make the BP lineup still be more male-dominant (CMBYN/Darkest Hour/Dunkirk/Get Out/Phantom Thread) while 7 of the PGA nominees were female lead.

There’s more things going for Get out than Lady Bird for why it would win. MeToo might’ve helped push more female nominees than normal, but wins are a totally different situation.

This whole thing is about the screenplay category. BP is a different situation.

I think Jordan Peele is more “in” than Greta Gerwig right now. They want to see him give a speech unless they really like Three Billboards THAT much.

Politics could easily push Lady Bird to a wga win that would have otherwise gone to Get Out. I’m still leaning towards 3BB for the Oscars, and I’m really not sure why most people are acting like original screenplay is only between Lady Bird and Get Out.

Funny you should say that, since I just switched from Lady Bird to likely Bafta winner Three Billboards for Original Screenplay at the Oscars last night.

WGA Original Screenplay is the definition of a coin-toss between Lady Bird and Get Out. Either film would be a deserving winner in my opinion.

WGA Adapted and the Scripter should easily go to Logan, but I predict they will be sheep and go for the stronger Oscar contender Call Me By Your Name.

I would love to see Logan and Lady Bird winning here.

I am simply leaning toward what the Critics Choice winners were.

lol people are citing the stanley kramer award and debut director as a reason for Get Out to win screenplay? People trying to act like getting snubbed at GG was good for Get Out? TRYING IT.

There is a reason why Get Out has been pigeonholed with those participation trophies. The genre bias is STRONG.

Can it win screenplay? Of course. Peele is known quantity at WGA. But if he wins it sure hell wont because he won debut director lol.

THe DGA win for Debut Director is still a major guild win, which can only help its chances with WGA. Facts are facts.

I am also predicting Get Out to win nothing at the Oscars or Baftas, so don’t call me a stan for that film in my defending the DGA win as being a sign of support for it within the industry, enough so that it could help it win WGA.

The last two debut director winners: Alex Garland, Ex Machina and Garth Davis, Lion.

Ex Machina won Visual Effects, something Get Out isn’t even nominated for.

    Lion didn’t win anything.

    Facts are facts,

Trying to pretend like it’s a precursor is fool’s gold.

@pj_edwards Oh I know DGA Debut Director is anything but a reliable Oscar precursor. Like I said, I think Get Out will likely win nothing at the Oscars. I was just saying an award from a major guild shows some kind of momentum, which could give Get Out a boost at WGA. That was all.

Because Ex Machina and Lion were NEVER winning their screenplay categories (Spotlight was unstoppable and so was Moonlight).

I think Lady Bird has a more polished script than Get Out, but the Peele film is a lot more fresh in its satire and execution while the Gerwig film is admittedly not the most original film of the past year. Get Out gave us something that felt new, while even though Lady Bird gave us something beautiful and amazing, it didn’t seem to feel as unique or relevant, besides the writer/director being a woman.
