Looking over the list of Oscar-winning animated shorts, I noticed that only five shorts starring iconic Looney Tunes characters have won this award. They were “Tweetie Pie,” “For Scent-imental Reasons,” “Speedy Gonzales,” “Birds Anonymous,” and “Knighty Knight Bugs.” While those shorts are all undeniably classics, I found it odd that several of the most famous Looney Tunes shorts went unrecognized by the Academy. “What’s Opera, Doc?,” “Duck Amuck,” “Rabbit Seasoning,” they never even received a nomination. Why is that? Were they deemed ineligible for some reason? Were they not submitted for consideration? Were they just underappreciated in their time? All I know is that it’s really unsettling to think a short starring Daffy Duck has never won here.
