I’ve seen several commenters on this board claim that Mad Max: Fury Road and The Revenant push “right wing ideology.” Can subscribers to this belief elaborate on why they think this is so? Because I’m pretty liberal, and I just don’t see it.

    That’s because it isnt there!

But I too am morbidly curious as to why anyone would think this, when MM is the polar opposite of “right-wing ideology”.

    Freeman, c’mon. Tell us.

I think that it is actually not several commenters, but just one over and over again and still nobody understands why.

Apparently, anything that looks “evil”, “sick” and “disgusting” on the surface is right wing lol.

How can anyone misunderstand the message in Mad Max, The messages of the movie were LITERALLY written on the wall…”OUR BABIES WILL NOT BECOME WARLORDS” “WE ARE NOT THINGS”, “WHO KILLED THE WORLD?” Unless you think right-wing has suddenly become anti-war and pro-women…

And the Revenant is too dumb to have an agenda.lol

According to The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Politics, the political Right opposes socialism and social democracy. Rightwing parties include conservatives, Christian democrats, classical liberals, nationalists and, on the far Right, racists and fascists.

The Revenant certainly appears right-wing, with it’s clear support of the death penalty and it’s unrelenting self-righteousness,

however, Mad Max is in direct opposition to the right-wing agenda, proposing a new paradigm to the post apocalyptic environment depicted in the film.

Right now we are living under a fascism with a power elite we cannot even identify.  Mad Max is a fight for freedom, and is a brilliant analogy of the world we live in.

    This thread is great.

I don’t think the Revenant has any political agenda (certainly not on the same level as Mad Max) but if it does I’m not sure you’re reading it right. I wouldn’t say there’s a clear support of the death penalty as SPOILERS Glass elects not to kill Fitzgerald. UNSPOILERS. And there does seem to be a condemnation of imperialism and bigotry in regards to the treatment of Native Americans, which leads me to think if it sides anywhere it’s on the left.

It’s not “several” posters that think this way. It’s ONE troll poster alone, and you’re feeding him by making this thread.

‘The Revenant’ takes place in 1823 — what society did not support the death penalty? Plus, it’s not like Leo’s hunt is over a frivolous issue…

Also, the film is getting a lot of traction with its environmental message (righly or wrongly) about protecting nature and the people who have been living there for generations, which is pretty left-wing.

Any society which has an Authority determining life and death is far far right, having a death penalty practically defines a right-wing society.

In 1823 the Native People of Canada and the USA primarily used banishment as their most severe punishment

Although the rules and implications of banishment are Tribe-specific, it commonly represents a complete severing of the individual’s relationship with the Tribe, and a loss of recognition as a member thereof.  In effect, a person’s cultural, spiritual, and familial heritage is stripped away, and the bonds to the nation of their birth terminated. This method of punishment is not unique to the borders of the U.S. and  Canada but has occurred around the world.

    Thank you for responding
