No release date from what I can tell, but the Red Band trailer is out, and it’s scorching, bitches! We have our first Lead Actress Oscar contender for 2017 as well with the one and only Frances McDormand.

    Trailer here:

She’ll get her elusive 2nd Best Actress nod for this.

Definitely a contender for Lead Actress, Supporting Actor, and Original Screenplay.

I’m in love with this character already. She’s a definite contender and maybe she beats Stone for the Globe.

Seeing the trailer, I don’t think it’s going to be an awards contender. I think it’s going to be critically acclaimed like his other works but overlooked by awards shows because of its violence and dark humor.

Fargo was a dark comedy with violence

Normally I’d think you have a point, but In Bruges was nominated for its screenplay, and McDormand is prestigious enough to be on the Academy radar for something like this. Being a past winner doesn’t hurt either.

I think that this could be a strong contender with the right release, I think the story of someone fighting against authority would particularly resonate with the academy this year given their general political inclination.
