    Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins)

Do you think that Meryl will be nominated if not win?

I’m skeptical of a nomination, but it certainly could happen. A win, however, is completely out of the question.

    Neither seem particularly plausible.

Not with this crowded field. She’ll get another nomination soon. Maybe even another win. But FFJ just seems like too little to justify another nomination for her.

Streep has 19 nominations. If she’s nominated this year it’ll be her 20th not 21st.

I think she’s getting in this year. The early release hurts her but it’s the type of film, like Philomena, which will appear strongly to the older generation of voters but also be a crowdpleaser generally in the academy. (Also, worth noting is that this year is pretty sparse on British films in contention and given how well those usually do with the Academy I wouldn’t underestimate this as one of the few).

Yeah it’s a film the Academy will love to bits, and she is a riot in it. Streep could entirely possibly get the fifth nod; I have her in my predicts for now.

No win but I think she’s in for the nomination. Not sure about SAG but I’m reasonably confident Globe and BAFTA nods are in the bag. And if she could garner a nod for Music of the Heart

Definitely not a win, and a nomination is also a long shot at this point. Too many spectacular lead performances that should and will get the 5 slots instead of this one.

Although, I think it’ll be hilarious if Hugh Grant gets in and she doesn’t.

Personally, I would rather another actress take that fifth slot. She was fantastic in FFJ but nothing nomination-worthy, in my opinion.

The performance is exactly the type which usually gets her nominations, and it seems like whenever there’s serious talk about Meryl getting snubbed, she still gets in (like August: Osage County, for example). The only problem is the steepness of the competition, but my feeling at the moment is that if Viola goes supporting, Meryl’s chances at a nom increase dramatically.

Honestly, Hugh Grant was better and more of a lead. I think it’s a little too obviously baity and off the beaten path for a nomination, and there’s no reason to ever consider her as a potential winner.

She would deserve a nomination but I don’t hear many people talking about it 2 months later. It’ll do its business at the Globes and then the bloodbath of Viola vs Emma vs Natalie vs Annette vs Amy/Ruth will reign at the Oscars
