Oscar-nominated star Michael Fassbender will be playing a lighthouse keeper in a new movie starring Rachel Weiz.

The Light Between Oceans will begin filming in New Zealand this September.

The film, based on a book of the same name, is being made by Dreamworks, where Steven Spielberg is a partner.

The movie will be directed by Derek Cianfrance, who is best known for movies Blue Valentine and Place Beyond The Pines.

Both films starred Hollywood star Ryan Golsing.

But it’s Shame star Michael Fassbender that has landed the lead role of Tom Sherbourne.

The story follows a young lighthouse keeper and his wife who live on a remote island off Western Australia.

They find a boat washed ashore carrying a dead man and an infant, and decide to keep the child.

Years later discover the consequences of that decision as the baby’s real story unfolds.

Interesting news. That title of the thread is misleading, though. Why not just say “new Derek Cianfrance movie”?

Agreed. Other than that, interesting news. I LOVED both of Cianfrance’s films, so I’m certainly interested (plus, Rachel Weisz!).

The title of the thread is confusing. Spielberg is not directing.

Just because Spielberg is producing (by proxy) doesn’t make it a Spielberg film
In fact, I would have been more excited and intrigued if the thread title said Derek Cianfrance was directing

Perhaps not, but whenever I see that Ryan Gosling is in a film or his name is mentioned he rest of the details fly out the window

Then why didn’t you say “in new Dreamworks movie”?

You know you put Spielberg to gain visits to the thread, so please, stop confusing the members of this forum.

I appreciate how “conventional” Fassbender’s career is going now. No matter what, he’s an exceptional actor and if he mixes both commercial and artistic, then I’m in for him. However, I think the Academy is going to have difficult times in order to recognize him with nominations/statuettes.
