I have noticed a lot of chatter about the role of millennials, so it made me curious about how many millennial Oscar nominees there have been. Much to my surprise, I could not find a definitive list, so I went to creating my own and this is what I found:

    Eddie Redmayne (1/6/82)
    Anna Paquin (7/24/82)
    Benh Zeitlin (10/14/82)
    Anne Hathaway (11/12/82)
    Lupita Nyong’o (3/1/83)
    Gabourey Sidibe (5/6/83)
    Jesse Eisenberg (10/5/83)
    Felicity Jones (10/17/83)
    Jonah Hill (12/20/83)
    Belly (4/7/84)
    Damien Chzelee (1/19/85)
    Keira Knightley (3/26/85)
    Barkhad Abdi (4/10/85)
    Rooney Mara (4/17/85)
    Carey Mulligan (5/28/85)
    Anna Kendrick (8/9/85)
    Lady Gaga (3/28/86)
    Ellen Page (2/21/87)
    Maketa Irglova (2/28/88)
    Haley Joel Osment (4/10/88)
    Adele (5/5/88)
    Alicia Vikander (10/3/88)
    Emma Stone (11/6/88)
    Brie Larson (10/1/89)
    The Weeknd (2/16/90)
    Keisha Castle-Hughes (3/24/90)
    Jennifer Lawrence (8/15/90)
    Sam Smith (5/19/92)
    Saoirse Ronan (4/12/94)
    Abigail Breslin (4/14/96)
    Hailee Steinfeld (12/11/96)
    Quvenzhane Wallis (8/28/03)

I used 1982 as my cutoff point, even though I know that there is some dispute as to when the millennial generation is understood to begin. I also saw Fraser Boy listed as born in 1982, Lucy Alibar listed as born in 1983, and Jimmy Napes as both in 1984, but no birth dates for any of them. I am sure there must be more, especially in categories like short film, but I haven’t been able to identify them. Does anyone notice any absences from this list to add?

I wouldn’t consider anyone in their 30’s millennials. Really any 80’s born is pushing it as a millennial

It has nothing to do with your uninformed personal opinion, the 1980’s are the beginning of the millennial generation.

Here are a few that I’m not sure would count as “millenials” or who may have just missed the cut-off:

    Michelle Willams (9/9/80)
     Jake Gyllenhaal (12/19/80)
    Heath Ledger (4/4/79)
    Anna Paquin (7/24/82)
    Rachel McAdams (11/17/78)
    Ryan Gosling (11/12/80)

not to mention that the start and end dates are not set in stone, it is generally thought that the start date is around 1982 and the end date around 2004, but if you were born in a cusp year you could consider yourself a millenial as well.   Therefore, it is okay to consider somebody born as early as 1978 as a millenial.

I personally was born in 1981 and consider myself more of a millenial than a member of Gen-X, as I have more in common with the millenials than I do with Gen-X.
