I watched The Iron Lady this weekend and was blown away by Meryl’s performance. It made me think that she’d have three oscars on her mantle which is rare. Only 4 performers have won more than 2 oscars.

    Katharine Hepburn has 4
    Jack Nicholson has 3
    Walter Brennan has 3
    Ingrid Bergman has 3

It is an exclusive club and made me think who will/if anyone will join this club.

I do believe Meryl will join this club eventually. i also think the following list has real potential.

Daniel Day-Lewis (if Lincoln is any good, he could do it next year)
Kate Winslet (she will continue to rack up the nominations)
    Cate Blanchett
    Sean Penn

I am just curious on what you all think.

Are we talking about just acting?

Call me a fanboy, but I would LOVE to see Natalie Portman do it, since she’s still young and has Tom’s babe factor.

I thought just for acting as I know others have won more oscars for other fields

Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro, if they start to choose better roles… But I want Streep in that club first

Bette Davis made about 100 movies and was nominated 11 times.  Not just one or two but DOZENS of iconic performances.  She should have more than “just” two Oscars.

Streep and Maggie Smith should have more than 7 Oscars by now.

I thought this was about general areas, but apparently the acting obsession has hijacked this thread too…

I’ll steer this out of acting:

Most people in technical categories repeat very often.

Stanley Kubrick should have several Oscars.  Alfred Hitchcock should have a dozen.

I think Scorsese should have 2 Directing Oscars by now. One for “Raging Bull” and one for “Goodfellas”.

I think  Tarantino could (and should) win a Directing Oscar too (he should’ve won one for “Pulp Fiction”).

By the way, I do hope Tarantino gets another Oscar soon. The man deserves it.

    Smith: 5 (6)
    -Othello

Who I think will join the ‘club’

    for the men:

    Sean Penn
    Kevin Spacey
    Tom Hanks
    Daniel Day-Lewis

    (maybe Denzel, Robert and Dustin)

    for women:

    Jodie Foster
    Meryl Streep
    Cate Blanchett
    Kate Winslet

(maybe Jane Jonda and Jessica Lange, don’t believe in Hilary Swank)

and DiCaprio who will win in mid-40, at 62 or 63 and at 80’s will win a supporting award, yeah it’s in my mind but still happens lol
