Nikki Finke Launches Site Devoted To Hollywood Fiction

by Mike Fleming Jr    May 18, 2015 8:36am

    Hollywood Dementia

Deadline Hollywood founder Nikki Finke has unveiled plans to start HollywoodDementia.com, a site devoted to the creation of fictional story lines about living and working in Hollywood. She will write some of these, and curate contributions from screenwriters and other artists. It will be up and running by the end of June. “Not since F. Scott Fitzgerald, John O’Hara and more recently Michael Tolkin and Bruce Wagner have knowledgeable writers tackled showbiz in short fiction or succeeded in getting paid for it. Now add my name to the list about to try that – and I invite Hollywood movie and TV writers, executives, journalists, critics and authors to join me,” she writes.

An accomplished teller of hard showbiz truths, Finke’s foray into Hollywood fiction is an inspired idea. I think she is onto something, and here is the link.

Her mission statement? “Hollywood Dementia: noun. Deterioration of intellectual faculties, such as memory, concentration, and judgment, sometimes accompanied by emotional disturbance and personality changes, resulting from an organic disease or a disorder of the brain acquired while working in the entertainment industry that causes someone to be unable to think clearly or to understand what is real and what is not real.” After all the screenings, meetings, parties, and covering all-night dealmaking auctions here at Cannes the past week, I think she just encapsulated what I and probably every other journalist on the ground feels right now. Wait, wasn’t this supposed to be fiction?

Ok 24. When I first saw the headline, Nikki Finke, you KNOW what I thought, and my heart almost came up my throat and into my mouth…….

She’s right btw. And, that description, sounds very much like we GD’ers.
