SAG/AFTRA voters received screeners, free tickets or free downloads of every film nominee EXECPT Saving Mr. Banks and Rush.
I guess neither Thompson or Bruhl had much of a chance to begin with but now I suspect they have no chance at all.January 3, 2014 at 2:17 pm #128351
I’m sure they will receive them soon. Although i loved Thompson in Saving Mr. Banks this race is between Sandra and Cate. With Cate winning.January 3, 2014 at 2:27 pm #128352
Thompson’s performance in Saving Mr. Banks is laughable compared to her previous work and her competition, so this really doesn’t help or hurt her.
Bruhl is surprising though. You’d think the people behind Rush would try to get him as far ahead as possible. Maybe they’re saving the big campaign for the Globes, where Rush was better received.January 3, 2014 at 2:34 pm #128353
Thompson’s victory here is the nomination. I loved her performance but she is not beating Cate or Sandra.January 3, 2014 at 3:00 pm #128354
I still have this feeling that August: Osage County will replicate The Help winning Actress (Meryl), Supporting Actress (Julia) & Ensemble @ SAG. We will see then.January 3, 2014 at 3:03 pm #128355
I think August: Osage County will win Ensemble. But not Actress. Maybe Supporting Actress.January 3, 2014 at 3:05 pm #128356
Voters can still go to movie theaters and see her performance.

I actually think she is threat to win on SAG.
Also, her film was screened quite a bit, and is currently at very easy access to most voters to watch in the theaters (and my guess most members would make damn sure to catch a big film starring Thompson and Hanks). Her film is a hit, so Disney probably knew that most voters would watch her in the theater anyway, and is avoiding sending screeners so no to facilitate piracy.
What does Goldderby posters have against Emma Thompson? Ever since she started gaining traction a few weeks ago, people insist that she is not a contender, even though her film has a lot of support (PGA nom) and even though she is a veteran that has never won SAG in a hit film most members probably have watched/will watch.January 3, 2014 at 3:25 pm #128358
I understand that Emma Thompson’s weakness is her supposed “one-note performance”. This may not augur well with Actors versus other more showy performances.January 3, 2014 at 4:02 pm #128360
Based on Twitter reactions from SAG-AFTRA voters, there appears to be a strong push & campaign behind A:OC to win Best Ensemble. TWC could be emulating the campaign & model of The Help. Even Meryl mentioned during the LA Premiere of A:OC that she want the Cast-Ensemble to be recognized more. And SAG will be the best opportunity for A:OC to realize this recognition for this Ensemble film.January 3, 2014 at 4:08 pm #128361

That is not working
out very well then, seeing as I saw Saving Mr. Banks on
Christmas without leaving the hourse.

What I have against Thompson is that I did not like the
film and her character was insufferable. At this point, I consider Amy Adams quite a safe bet since I
think that American Hustle is winning Best Picture, she has
survived a SAG snub before and David O. Russell got Jacki Weaver in,
even though she was missing precursors. With that in mind, one of
Thompson, Streep or Dench has to miss out. I put Thompson ahead of
Streep and Dench, since Saving Mr. Banks hit all of AFI/BFCA/PGA/NBR and Thompson got NBR.January 3, 2014 at 5:03 pm #128362
Jacki nod last year still gets on my nerves she won nothing esle.
Fact most don’t watch but still vote is sad.January 3, 2014 at 5:09 pm #128363
Adams got in supporting after missing out on SAG. And Russell didn’t Jacki Weaver in, SLP got Jackie Weaver. Different years, different films, different categories, different actresses.
People are very biased against a Thompson nom (and discussing the possibility of even a win) here. Even if you don’t like the performance, there are clear factors pointing to Thompson nom.
