    ELIGIBILITY

    Films must be released theatrically in the UK, within the Academy Awards year: 1 January to 31

    December 2011.

    Films that open between 1 January and 10 February 2012 inclusive may be ‘qualified’ by

    Distributors by being screened to Academy Film Voting Members by Tuesday 20 December 2011.

    To be eligible, a feature film must:

    be feature-length, i.e. with a running time exceeding 60 minutes;

    receive its first public exhibition or distribution in the UK as a theatrical release;

    be exhibited publicly to a paying audience

    so these rules mean that the iron lady could be eligeble. If it is Meryl wins the BAFTA as she plays Maggie who is british. But if not tilda wins

    Happy to see Banderas in the long list :). No chance to get nominated though.
    Surprised to see that they put Berenice in best actress.
    Why are  *  in some places?

    I’m stunned they didn’t include HP for Best Film. Outrageous.

    I think the *’s are what TV12 thinks will survive ’til the end, although I should let him answer that.

    Happy to see “Troll Hunter” up there.

    No, that can’t be it. I was just at the incontention blog on hitfix.com and they had the *’s attached to the same longlist nominees.

    Vanessa Redgrave didn’t even make the longlist. That’s a surprise and we can say goodbye to her chances.

    * means that they were the top “chapter” selections.

    TOL wasn’t even a chapter selection! *Vomit in my mouth*
