I don’t think anyone has created a thread for this yet, but if there is then please direct everyone to it.
There has been more casting & behind the scenes announcements made today:
Adding to Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as The Beast and Luke Evans as Gaston we now have:
Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts
Kevin Kline as Maurice (Belle’s Father)
AND….Alan Menken (who won two Oscars for his work on the original 1991 animated version) has signed up to score the film!
Menken & Tim Rice will write some new songs for the film, which is to be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls), and written by Stephen Chbosky (The Perks of Being A Wallflower).March 16, 2015 at 11:59 am #182786
and production will begin in May.March 16, 2015 at 12:09 pm #182787

Haha, I know right? Have much higher hopes for this after I read he was writing it.March 16, 2015 at 12:18 pm #182790
I can’t wait to hear Watson and Stevens’ singing voices! And Thompson! I’m actually really anticipating this now. Too bad we have to wait two more years still…March 16, 2015 at 12:34 pm #182791
If Jean Dujardin is not Lumiere I will be annoyed. It’s perfect casting. Make it happen Disney!!!March 16, 2015 at 2:25 pm #182792
High expectations for this! I know is too soon to say (but this is GD so), this could be THE film that achieves everything Disney could wish for: smashing box office, critical darling and awards real contender. Either the animated and the musical version of The Beauty and the Beast has the proved recipe for all that.
I’m not too excited for Condon, could be so much worse though. But I am for Chbosky, Thompson, and specially for the Menken-Rice return. Also worried about the CGI element and the production design; hopefully not as ugly intrusive as in previous Disney adaptations.
Could be THE role for Emma Watson.
Please Disney do not screw it.March 16, 2015 at 2:31 pm #182793
Watson. Thompson. Gad. Menken-Rice. Chbosky.
This could be awesome.
I’m anxious to see who fills out the rest of the cast. Ever since I heard someone suggest Dujardin for Lumiere, I cannot get it out of my head. I’m excited for this, far more than I was and ever have been for the “Cinderella” update, although I guess that’s not really on the same scale, is it?April 12, 2015 at 9:44 am #182794
Ian McKellen is signed up to star as Cogsworth!April 12, 2015 at 11:18 am #182795
Now THIS is a live-action that was much needed. Not that Cinderella/Snow White shit.
Emma Watson’s slayage knows no ends. Get cozy with them English royalty Emma Thompson and Ian McKellan sister girl!April 12, 2015 at 11:45 am #182796
Emma Watson…………. my love…..my life. I have her whole first scene of Harry Potter memorized by heart. I will now begin to prepare to memorize her new songs in this adaptation.April 13, 2015 at 1:02 pm #182798
I am so excited for this
Emma Thompson and Ian McKellen are literally my favorite British actress and actor respectively. I am beyond ecstatic that they are involved in this in great supporting roles.
I am also so excited for Emma Watson – she is fast becoming the most versatile of the Harry Potter leads.
I am hoping for Jean Dujardin to play Lumiere, or maybe even Jim Carrey?
But I’m pumped for this!!!
