WIth it’s release date in November coming up soon, I’m sort of surprised I haven’t heard much, if any critical discussion of Nicole Kidman’s “Grace of Monaco” film.

Is it just a matter of few having seen the movie? Is this movie considered a contender at all for any awards?    It’s possible I’m just totally out of the loop, which has been known to happen more than once.

Thoughts, is this project worth discussing?

Either it isn’t finished or Weinstein prefers not to have it exposed to festival critical reaction at this point.
My guess is that this isn’t going to be a serious Oscar contender, but it’s basically a hunch.
I don’t think Diana will be either.

Thank you for your response Scott… As always you provide me with exactly the answer I need.

I’m sort of surprised this is going under the radar as when it was announced there was a massive excitment online for the possibility this film could hold.

I’m guessing at this – I think Weinstein is hoping the Kidman/biopic factor will allow them to get it open in a busy period and with a decent size specialized campaign get some attention; if awards happen, great, but this should have some appeal. I personally am not excited by it (it has the crude Olivier Dahan as its director) but others I expect will like it more than I might. And nothing wrong with that.

Well I’m happy for you that you are convinced and satisfied. Personally, I’m going to wait and see. It’s more than possible for either/both films to have high-profile nomination(s).  If not this year, then next.

I have yet to watch last year’s Hitchcock biopic. I remember i was quite excited about going to see this when it was first announced. And i love Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren. But there was hardly any awards buzz. Is the same fate going to happen to Grace?

So it’s clear, both films will be released this year.

I know! Whenever I see Nicole’s name in the prediction center I hear crickets. Lol not that she doesn’t have a chance it’s just I feel like I have been hearing NOTHING about the details of the film. I would like to see a trailer 🙂

I greatly respect her. She takes risks. She seems to understand that the better the director, the better her performance..I don’t think I’ve ever seen her give a bad performance.

I only hate one movie she was ever in: “Bewitiched”. U are right though she makes good choices with directors and scripts.

Kidman is a very intelligent actress and makes great choices. Though I am one of the few supporters of Winslet in The Reader, I’m curious to see what she would have done with that role as she was originally cast in the role.

I loved her in “Malice”, “Moulin Rouge”, and “The Others.”  Dying to see “The Paperboy.”

I absolutely despised her performance in “The Hours” and would rank it as one of the worst Oscar wins ever (I honestly felt like it was a makeup for not winning for “MR”).  I did not think she was good in “Bewitched” or “Stepford” and while I felt like she made interesting choices with movies like “Fur”, sitting through many of them were tedious.

And, to be honest, it’s hard to buy into an actor’s performance when their plastic surgery distracts you and you’re wondering if/how much they’ve had done, and whether their face will ever move again.  My understanding is that she’s laid off from that, and I hope so, because I miss the fierce Nicole Kidman of old.

Kidman should have waltzed to the podium in 1995 for To Die For – one of my all-time favorite leading actress performances.

I knew I left one out- I loved that performance!  Thanks for the reminder.
