I am surprised a thread about this hasn’t been made yet (I searched and I found nothing), but if there is one, please let me know and I’ll delete this one

So the Coen Brothers are tackling the life of Eddie Mannix. The film stars George Clooney, Tilda Swinton, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Ralph Fiennes and Josh Brolin.

It is being released on February 5, 2016. Stupid decision. This film sounds excellent, but the early release date will kill it. Either push it to December 2015 or later on in 2016. But February? That just squashes its awards chances.

Not every baity movie is destined for awards season. It can be the new The Monuments Men.

Or perhaps the new Grand Budapest Hotel. The Coen Bros. don’t need anymore Oscars. I’m just hoping the film is good.

Yes. But The Monuments Men was moved when they determined it wasn’t award-worthy. This film sounds great on paper, so I don’t know why they wouldn’t have the confidence to put it at the very least in early fall.

The Monuments Men isn’t a very good movie though
Its peculiar, because the Coen Brothers almost always release their films in December. I wonder why its so early in the year for this one

And yes, maybe the Coen Brothers don’t need anymore Oscars, but Tilda Swinton, Ralph Fiennes and Josh Brolin do.

I wondered if Scarlett Johansson could make it in Supporting Actress. Maybe they push it to Christmas 2015?

The trailer is great. The movie looks amazing. Kind of weird with that release date, but whatever. I’m ready for this.

Yeah, me too! This looks great and equally promising as it did look on paper.

Change the release date to this year now! It could spice up this award season that has been underwhelming so far.

^^It will earn more money from where it is right now, that’s for sure.

I love the trailer! Cannot wait for this. Hopefully it’s 2016’s ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’ in terms of an early release date not indicative of it’s quality or Oscar chances.

I really like the trailer. Sidenote, Channing Tatum really is a good dancer…that was very Gene Kelly/Fred Astaire/Sinatra in “On the Town”.

So wish this were being released this year. I mean, apart from the fact that it looks incredible and I want to see it as soon as possible, the Best Picture race is thick with contenders but thin with locks. I think Hail, Caesar! would be extremely well-positioned – Coen brothers, Hollywood story, all-star cast, no comedies in contention.
