Looks like it was made for Lifetime. It might be a “Won’t Back Down” situation where Davis is way better than the movie deserves to be

No thanks. I’m sure Viola Davis is very good and I do applaud J.Lo for trying to stretch herself as an actress and take risks, but this just doesn’t look spectacular.

This looks like it could possibly be the case of a good movie with a really bad trailer. Obviously it’s hard to tell because of how like crappy tv-movieish I felt the trailer looked, but it seems like there could be a good movie buried in there.

I mean…it’s produced by Lifetime and A&E. I almost wonder if it was originally made for Lifetime, but Lifetime thought it turned out so well that they would try to get a distributor in order to get it into theatres. Although, why would Jennifer Lopez and especially Viola Davis need to resort to starring in a Lifetime movie? Puzzling. Definitely won’t be best actress contenders for this film unfortunately. If it was higher-caliber, it could be possible. Vaguely reminds me of Thelma & Louise.

Viola Davis needs an Oscar in Best Actress. Whenever she has a theatrical vehicle where it looks like she is giving a performance worthy of award season consideration I will beat the drum for her. Hoping others at major award bodies will agree and acknowledge her.

There are too many overdue legends that I would say “need an Oscar in Best Actress” before I mention Viola Davis.

Many of the women you’re thinking of won’t make it near Oscar again, let alone that category.

England’s point still stands. Viola Davis isn’t overdue at all.

Isn’t overdue by traditional white standards. But since she is nonwhite and female, earning a third nomination is her narrative for a win.

To each their own about the perception of the trailer, but it looks great to me, and Viola appears to be giving one hell of a performance. Hell, the trailer alone looks a million times better than the indie project Julianne Moore just won for, but that’s a completely separate story.

Peaceful Resolution, you are right, Viola is definitely in need a of an Oscar, sooner than later. I hope she will finally get the Barbara Jordan project greenlit, as I believe that will be the perfect vehicle for her.

Agreed. It does look like it’ll be a tense thriller. I don’t know. Between Bridge of Spies and this I find myself liking the trailers that everyone hates and then Macbeth, a trailer that received so much love, I’m a bit meh on.

Exactly, 24Emmy, I’m looking forward to both movies. Jennifer & Viola look to have very good chemistry, and it looks intense. I think this movie will do well for them, as the subject matter is very powerful & relevant in today’s society.

It has nothing to do with skin color. Viola is one of the hardest working actresses out nowdays with lead and supporting roles. When it comes to black women being overdue: Angela Basset, Cicely Tyson, Vanessa Williams, Pam Grier, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Alfre Woodard are the ones Id consider overdue before Viola Davis.

Viola has me in tears just from the trailer. How does she do that to me every single time? I can easily live with Lopez in this role. I wish her well. Hopefully it’ll be the second time I’ve enjoyed one of her perfs.

Black, White, Yellow, Brown, Red…..the “law enforcement” troops with guns have killed thousands upon thousands of Americans ovr the years. I’d love to see THAT in this film.
