‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’ is the sequel to the 2012 global blockbuster ‘The Avengers’. Joss Whedon will once again take the reins as director, but he’s also MUCH more involved with the plottiing/scripting/casting this time around. It is to be released on May 1st, 2015.

As previously announced, Aaron Taylor-Johnson (‘Kick-Ass’, ‘Anna Karenina’, ‘Nowhere Boy’) is in final negotiations to play Quicksilver, and Elizabeth Olsen (‘Martha Marcy May Marlene’, ‘Therese’) is in final negotiations to play his twin sister, Scarlet Witch. Whedon has previously mentioned that both characters will be very important and play large roles in this film.

Robert Downey Jr. (as well as the rest of the Avengers) are all set to return. Not returning: the previous big bad, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who can be seen in this fall’s ‘Thor: The Dark World’.

If the title is any indication, the big bad this time around will be Ultron, a criminally insane sentient robot hellbent on destroying humanity. It has just been announced that he is to be played by James Spader.

It seems to have pleased Whedon as well.

Well Loki has no business being in this movie but don’t tell his stans that or else they’ll rip your head off.

Anyway, I really dig Spader being Ultron. Though I’m really hoping Taylor-Johnson isn’t Quicksilver.

It’s interesting that Aaron Taylor Johnson and Liz Olsen will also be in Godzilla, a 2014 release, except they’ll be playing love interests and here…siblings…

    Or incestual siblings. 😉

It already did… With many proclaiming that it was PROOF that Loki would die in ‘Thor: The Dark World’.

Well, this certainly is an interesting casting choice. I wonder if it will be motion capture or just voice work, given that Spader is on an new NBC drama and likely doesn’t have a lot of time to shoot other projects. As for Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver being incestual siblings like in the Ultimates, I don’t think Disney will allow that for the film. This isn’t Game of Thrones. And as for Loki not being in the film, it’s probably for the best. Tom Hiddleston is perfect in the role, but it would be overkill if he was the main villain in 4 films in a 5 year period.

Gotta love Tumblr. Between the Loki fandom, the Supernatural fandom, the Sherlock fandom, and the Glee fandom there is always some kind of crisis.

Great casting choice. Like others have said, I’m guessing this is a voiceover performance because he’s shooting a new TV series.

I detest almost every part of fandom. They just never know when to stop.

I recently tried to watch the original Avengers, and turned it off after an hour because I was so bored.

Trailer leaked today. It’ll be interesting how Whedon handles all of the fallout from the phase 2 films, especially Captain America: The Winter Soldier, while also inserting all the newcomers into his film. In this case, we’ve got Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), Quicksilver (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Vision (Paul Bettany, who is also the voice of JARVIS), and the big baddie himself, Ultron (James Spader). And the good news is that, judging from the trailer, Spader may break the MCU pattern of great actors being underutilized in substandard villain roles (that are not named Loki, of course). His voiceover is absoultely creepy. And I can’t wait to see the Hulkbuster fight the actual Hulk.
